Reviews for "REALM 5: Revelation"

just awesome

My activity on NG is near dead, however sometimes I still come here, because I refuse to die. And so does madness and their awesome creators. No matter the year, there still 'ol flash animations out there worth watching! Kelzad, you have my respect. Long live madness!

Of all that times after, Even after downfall of Adobe flash, Didn't expected next episode of series.

Aight, this needs equal parts praise and criticism if it has any means of growth. I'll start with the bad, and get to the good.

The bad-

Plot: Shit starts fucked, ends fucked but with extra purple thrown in. I'll be blatant in saying that the story didn't really progress. Like, at all. I appreciate character and plot development, I genuinely do, but not when it takes a whole 20+ minutes for anything to develop. It's a whole lot of reiteration from REALM 4 without any substance, basically amounting to "hey, dickhead, Yeelon is an ass, let's end him." Is it worth reiterating? Not really. The time was better spent actually expanding rather than working through slow dialogue and bland action sequences. Kelzad's OC feels more like a Gary Stu than before (sorry man), but at the same time what little screen time he has at least provides entertainment. My ONLY gripe with him is a lack of action, which, let's be fair, is the whole draw of the Madness Universe anyways.

Aesthetic: Everything is purple, otherwise reasonably it's nothing seen before. This isn't a big negative, since it can basically be summed as Madness 11 but purple rather than red, and Madness 11 was great. I merely wish for more variety in scenery.

The good-

Raw Animation: Still some of the smoothest you can find, almost (if not equivalently) rivaling Krinkels. Every scene, every fight, every plot element flows nearly perfectly from one to another. It's ideal for a fan animation, a worthy tribute to the source material. No real complaints here.

Violence: This is, objectively, the big draw for any Madness animation anyways, so it's the most critical aspect. I'll be blatant in saying that the violence was lacking. HOWEVER, what little there was did reach a level of satisfaction I'd hope for, given Kelzad's veteran status. Action sequences were consistent, satisfying, and helped keep the animation somewhat interesting.

Final score: Easily a 3/5, maybe even a 3.5/5, putting it above average. Hopefully this was merely a plot building entry rather than an expected entry signaling the general quality to the remainder of the series. I still have high hopes despite the lull in the action and overall plot development. Kelzad still proves to be a competent animator despite the shortcomings, and I hope this lackluster criticism hits home in some way to help him work out the faults while bolstering his already impressive skills.

Kelzad responds:

It primarily sucks that through the first half of the movie I wasn’t very motivated to go extra crazy with the choreography, but I will go ahead and say that it was done on purpose. The very ending gives that explanation, that they weren’t actually trying to kill him and neither were they through the whole series prior to that. That’s literally a major plot point put across, due to Sokar’s offer being denied and then he realizes shortly into the fight that Kelzad was weaker then he thought, then exposes him to his underlings, to die, instead.
The movie was very plot based and touched a ton of ground on the whereabouts of everyone, while answering a lot of questions people have had previously. So I don’t agree with that, personally.
With Kelzad being healed by our unseen character Kelzad is now fully reinvigourated, therefore my focus will shift to an action based movie.
Glad to hear you think it’s smooth since that’s a field I dwell on half the time.

Pretty good, but the plot is not much messy
But it does not spoil the animation
I hope I don’t have to wait two more years.
