Reviews for "Heartburn Boulevard"

Its a good game although I am gonna say. As mentioned in another comment, the game starts off with a very intriguing dialogue about blood cells and whatever, then it goes silent. The music is great, great atmosphere and visuals. But, the controls are kinda cranky, specially when it comes to jumping. And I noticed that after splitting, they both face a different direction, so that when jumping off of herself you will intuitively jump in the wrong direction since you already started walking in the other direction. Its not much but its enough to break the immersion in the experience and I personally found it very infuriating. Besides that, the game itself is good. I think the splitting mechanic is fun to play around with, although it can be a little mind boggling in the beginning. To end my rant (sorry for that) I think the game needs some more polishing.

edit: Its hard to tell because people are different, but I prefer the intuitive approach. Anyway good job, its nice that there was a learning moment. Most times in production you wish you could go back and fix a fundamental issue but its too late, just gotta take notice and do better on the next game!

The stacked jump direction was a really hard call to make. For most of the game's development the Emily on top would jump in the opposite direction of the bottom's movement, matching your initial intuition. However a lot of my playtesters didn't have that intuition and got frustrated, so I switched to the current system. I'm not sure if I made the right call.

Might be just my bias speaking, but I can't help but feel that the delicious noir atmosphere is wasted on a puzzle game with almost no plot. Good game regardless.

If you mute the music, it unmutes every time you pass a door or die even though the mute symbol is still on, and you have to unmute and remute it.

When falling through an open door i've found it possible to slide into the walls and then float off into nothingness.

Jumping off of holding yourself isn't easy to go in a specific direction.

Original concept, nice atmosphere and well made. The way you combined the 50's with anatomy works out really well. GJ! 5/5 :)
