Reviews for "The Grand Grimoire Chronicles - Episode 3"

It took me a couple hours to figure everything out, and when the Final Button appeared, I decided to go a couple locations back. And -- ouch! -- the Final Button was gone, and now I probably have to replay. I consider this a bug.

Otherwise, it was great and enjoyable. Cheers to the author!

Update. While I was replaying the game, it froze at the combination lock. I reloaded the page and continued the saved game only to find it at a much earlier point, with the in-game soundtrack overlaid with the one from the main menu. Downgrading the score until the bugs get fixed.

JeffreyDriver responds:

Thanks for the feedback. Completion checking happens when you interact with an object, I suppose it should also check on scene switch. Saving should happen every scene but I'll look into it. Cheers.

This game is good with a great story, but after a it gets to a point where you're clicking everything to try and find a new reaction. It's somewhat annoying, especially when you get later into the game and used up almost everything. For example, I've found the secret chamber and used the stone circle, but can't figure out where to go from there.

Edit: Finally at the combination, but I'm drawing blanks as to what it is and there are no real indicators as to what it could be. Never mind figured it out, pretty clever.

JeffreyDriver responds:

The combination stumped pretty much everyone. I thought I was being kind by making it easy (in fact there are two ways to arrive at the correct combination) but the answer is so close to you, you don't see it.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for playing.

Thank you for your replying .
The sound turns off now.
I was stuck because the look at left side of the sign reply is unhelpful, or incorrect at the start.
I also noticed 3 of the east village windows don't say "can't reach".

JeffreyDriver responds:

Sorry about the sound issue. It worked fine when testing in flash, so I think it's an HTML5 issue. Either way, I've tweaked the code so it should now be fixed.

In the carpark be sure to check the signs on the post!

EDIT: I'm going to made some edits based on your comments. Thanks.

Well done! The last lift confused me with its pixelhunting, but it's good anyway.

JeffreyDriver responds:

Thanks. I may make that bit a bit clearer, though I think it's the only pixel-hunting part.

Overall it was a nice retro point-n-click game, and while I'm not typically a big point-n-click game fan I can appreciate it. The series as a whole is becoming somewhat memorable as I recognize the style of the previous episodes, although moreso because of the retro styling than the horror/mystery element. Getting a stronger horror/mystery ambiance might be difficult with retro graphics and sound, but the Last Door and Deep Sleep series did it well so it's not impossible, and I get the feeling that it could take the series to another level.

As for the game's puzzles, there was one item that I thought was too much of a pixel hunt to find, and I'm a little ashamed to admit how much time I spent trying to figure out how to enter 11, 9, 2 as a three digit combination.

Edit: I was going based on the room with a lot of barrels -- there was a pile of 11, a pile of 9, and a pile of 2 without any other purpose that I could remember. So I figured they were the three numbers and tried all sorts of stuff like just counting the top row, just the bottom row, taking the difference between the top and bottom rows, and some other things I can't remember.

JeffreyDriver responds:

Thanks. Where did you get the 11, 9, 2 figure from? Because there's two ways to get the number for the lock, and that combination is nowhere near!
