Reviews for "The Infected"

Nice concept. Holding shift to sprint didn't work for me on Linux/Chrome though.

BTCGamer responds:

Thanks! And I removed the shift to sprint.

Hi! Nice little game... I liked that you made ammo & medikits slightly translucent and incorporeal when not needing them. It prevents accidental pickups, which can happen often if you are escaping from creatures!
The collision detection needs some improvement, imho: sometimes, you can find yourself stuck, and that's not good when there's something shooting at you.
Also, you should set the normal speed of the character at the run-speed: considering there's no stamina, it's pointless to switch between walking and running, and I simply kept the shift button pressed all the time.
Overall a good game! Hope to see more from you!

at the "more through the lab" level.. i could not exit the level. killed everything.. there is nothing to pick up.. the arrows are already there. must be a bug.

BTCGamer responds:

you have to destroy the boxes that are blocking the exit first

I agree with most of what was said before: The collision detection is spotty and the AI was boilerplate, the ammo headache, etc. I will not expand on those things; others have made the points adequately already.

However there I rather liked the feature where the game prevents you from picking up items/health when you're full already. I've seen it in other games but I appreciated the added touch of graying out the item's icon on the screen when they are full. It made it a little easier to keep track of what I needed.

One thing that struck me as unneeded was the shift to run. I found myself just holding the shift down as par for the course. It would have been perhaps better or more streamlined to just have your avatar move at the run speed as default. Perhaps a stamina mechanic to give a reason to decide to walk or run?

The game was playable if a little glitchy at points. The level design was uninspired but it got the job done. This seems like a beginner's offering. I'm not going to mark you off for that, everyone has to start somewhere.

Normally I would call this a 2.5 star game, but the atmospheric music is worth half a star, and I'm going to grade on a curve because I'm not expecting a magnum opus. We'll call it 3.5 stars. Not a stellar game, but a promising start.

BTCGamer responds:

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely still have some work to do. Hope you enjoyed the game!

sticky collision, bad AI, no corner slide, gotta fix so that it feels alright to just move around, then focus on other shit.
