In answer to your joyce question, I hit the same problem but managed to move on by trying different orders. When you leave the room it resets the dialogues, so if you keep trying different orders of people eventually you'll get something you can progress with. I'm stuck trying to get the thief back to vanilla. I seem to be trying to catch an echo of meowth rather than the actual meowth. Is that normal?
