Reviews for "Bron's Quest - Reasonably Beta! (18+)"

I hope this beta is more of a display of the art than it is a taste of the story and writing to come.

I was a patron for 5 months, around the time when Re:Maid was being finished. Loved it. Even more impressive than the art was the story and writing. It took itself seriously. It was genuine. My only grievance was that there wasn't more of it.

To wait two years for .....this... sigh.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional subtle references to stuff outside of the game itself.

This game doesn't just break the fourth wall, it takes the player by the neck and repeatedly smashes them into it until it collapses on you and you're lying in the rubble of meta, struggling to breathe under the weight of a thousand pop culture references, narrator injections, and CHARACTER DIALOGUE referencing "the devs!"

Here's a rundown of the game's future as I see it:

"This is the literal beginning! We know what you're here for--blowjob! Done? Let's continue on a quest! MUSIC. Some lazy comment. While we're at it, let's rant about the use of the word 'literal.' RECORD SCREECH! Meta joke. Back to the quest, more music. RANDOM INTERRUPTION COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO ANYTHING (but it has META!) Back to the quest. Getting bored? Here's a two-image sex scene. RECORD SCREECH! MUSIC! META! RECORD SCREECH! MUSIC! The end. Thanks for playing be sure to keep supporting us so we can hit our UNLISTED goal and make a voice-acted game lol"

Your criticism is entirely fair and to be perfectly honest, I'm not the biggest fan of self-referential humor either, so I totally see where you're coming from. It's OK you don't like it. 'Cause in the end, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. /BigB

I like the idea but this Visual Novel isn't a standard VN so it feels like it should have an item bag or quest log system so that you can track down your current progress since it feels like you are trying to make it so that the choices matter. On a traditional VN there's no need to collect items or to follow quests, you just make selections that changes a series of events to follow a character's route. A gallery would also be convenient so that players could review their unlocked scenes. I understand that this is a beta but this is not your first game so there are things that would be expected as major improvements from the others even when presenting it as a work in progress game.

Good feedback, thanks! /BigB

Probably gunna become a patreon for you guys, this game had me laughing my ass off

over a year of development:

THE GOOD

-Art
-Humor

THE BAD

-Weak NSFW scenes, previous games had better (though they are complete, but they did take less than a year to complete)

-Dialogue seems lazy when not being humorous (previous games didn't have humor, but dialog and story was far better)

-Given how much of patreon content is given to $10+ backers one has to wonder why lesser backers have to put up with advertisements ($18+ for $1 a month tier and you still have ads, $90 for $5 a month), I guess if you were not a patron a line or 2 of dialog isn't bad.

-You can dead end the game with dialog choices. First game I picked White Girl quest into Rape quest with talking option, then decided to not kill the guard as I felt the princess was not a good person to work for, and instead of 'talking' to the princess I had to leave, and had no reason to go anywhere (according to dialog when i visited the different places) and thus couldn't unlock Generic Town #14.

THE UGLY

-Bugs, Lazy Writing, Lack of NSFW content, Long development time, Lackluster NSFW scenes, Lower quality story over previous games (even the Nympho Wife which was considered below par for them by their own admission), Unfinished, Short.

-Conclusion-

Backed the game at $1 for about 18 months before moving on. During that time plenty of content was released for previous games at $10 and up. Not saying that the ratio of development wasn't spent based on ratio of money charged, but $18 for what is here is pretty steep. On the up side the previous games is worth the money spent on the team for that $18 bucks so I paid a reasonable price overall (Crusoe Had It Easy and Re:Maid). Given what they have done in the past I am sure it will be pretty good when they finish, but for now it is really just a proof of concept. The main character seems more put together than the previous games, though maybe this means that they don't know how to write a story for him? either that or this was hastily thrown together (maybe a month or two of work?), or maybe they have lost most of their team?

TL;DR - not up to par for one of their games yet, come back when it is complete and it will probably be good during the polish phase, and hopefully they will polish the game for free users (or even people who dumped $20 for this game).

marblesyrup responds:

What ads are you talking about...? We don't put up ads for anyone. If you're talking about here on Newgrounds, that's all Newgrounds doing and the profit goes to them, not us (not that we're not happy for that to happen - we love Newgrounds). I'm thankful you supported usfor 18 months but calling that "a price" that was "steep" is ridiculous when the real cost toget access to 3 finished games + 2 unfinished ones is exactly $1 and you personally chose to support us for longer by your own volition.

You also mention "bugs" but don't actually list any (nor has any other reviewer). If you actually encountered any, please do point them out and we'll fix them.

This game is full of comedy...unexpected for a fuck-me game..loved it!
