Reviews for "Hop: Friend Resurrection"

Not bad

This is pretty decent but there's only one short level and no enemies. Nice job anyway.

the programming and animation were great, the only problem was that it was meaningless

kay, so, I'm fairly certain you're looking at this long review and wondering how I could have possibly come up with a review this long for a game that's ridiculously short. As it said, though, before you even clicked the game, it's a really short and meaningless game. So, why the long review? Because reviews are mainly meant to let you in on what the fuss is about, and to also have players give their opinions. If you don't wish to read all of this, skip to the TL;DR.

So music. Music is simple. Very "main menu" esque in nature and not really for platforming entirely. It's the kind of music you listen to when you read dialogue to the opening to a game, or during a cutscene that's taking place. However, this isn't that big of a problem.

Second, You may want to be warned of potential motion sickness. This game features a camera that follows you as you go, and will only vertically move once you've either gone high enough to where the camera needs to scroll up, or you've landed on a platform above you to give you more of a view on what lies ahead of you. This can be extremely jarring and can thus lead to many instances where you become disoriented and may also make you sick. If you have problems with this game as you play it, probably best to just stop playing all together.

The controls in this game are tight and responsive, but all be it rather unorthodox (Or strange, for those who are too lazy to look up what that word means). Making S to jump rather than the standard Spacebar for most flash games is odd, but it's not something to get into a huff about. Everything functions as it should when it should, and that's perfect.

One thing that's a little bit weird is the physics. "Physics? This is a game where you're just jumping and running... What could physics have anything to do with it?" The weird thing about the games physics is, the longer you hold the jump button, the higher your jump goes, this is hinted to you at the fact that some platforms are higher than others and some are lower, so you don't necesarrily need the whole jump to reach some platforms, while for others you do. Now if you didn't figure this out, this is probably because you were holding the button the whole time and got the maximum arc you're allowed. Now, why is this a problem? Well, sometimes, you can hold the button for the same time, and the game thinks you took a longer jump when you actually didn't. Or, you take much too SHORT of a jump. The physics of jumping tend to change on you sometimes, which thus makes you feel like maybe something is wrong, or you didn't hold it long enough or you actually DID hold it for too long, when no, it's just the physics making you go higher or lower than you wanted/were supposed to.

Now, granted, what I've mentioned seems like it would be bad, so why did I give it the review I did? Because you have to understand, this game was made in a week. Nothing is going to be perfect when you're in a time period, and this is all a simple and basic idea for a game. It introduced everything to you, and the objective was rather clear as you went along. Collect everything and win in the end. Nothing cryptic, nothing impossible, just get from point a to point b while picking up all of the collectables on the way. Yes, with the camera being crazy, the game accelerates too fast for its own good and the objective is ridiculously short, but, again, this was made within one week, so that shouldn't be too much of a complaint enough to criticize this game.

Good game! Would actually love to see more!

Naxe responds:

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to give me this much feedback, I really do appreciate it from the bottom of my heart that strangers on the internet are willing to help me make better games.
You're awesome, and I've taken your feedback into account, thank you!

I think it's good and I think you should expand this idea and make it bigger. The game is good. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it was too short. Keep up the good work!
