Reviews for "~SW~ Reflection"

It progresses pretty slowly in the beginning, but I love the spacey vibe by around :40. I can definitely see how Johnfn's style is incorporated in here. You did a good job of creating an appropriate amount of reverb for the piece. The progression is cool, although it also makes the piece feel a bit disjointed. The drums were really cool, though. All the layered snares added a ton of pop to the piece. The mixing and mastering overall is great, and I think the sidechaining helps it a lot. I also especially liked the melodies at around the 6-minute mark. Beautiful work, SkyeWint!

SkyeWint responds:

Hi, TL! Glad you like it!

The spacey vibe is totally there yeah, lol. I wasn't thinking of that when I made this, but it's definitely there. Glad that the mix and master is appropriate! It was actually much harder to master this song than a lot of mine, because of the sheer dynamic diversity everywhere in it. I had to set the threshold much lower than normal so that it wouldn't start clipping and going past the limiter.

Melodies around the 6 minute mark (the solo) is totally johnfn influence all over there :P good to know that it worked!

I can see what you mean about the piece feeling a bit disjointed. I could have made the transitions a bit more gradual, but damn. That would have made this longer ;_; I'm not sure how much more I could have kept interest at that point.

Thanks!

I wish I had the time right now for a really long review, because this song sure deserves it - but I enjoyed the hell out of this. The progression, the melodic creativity (SO MUCH MELODY, seriously I would go crazy writing this much stuff at one time. So much diversity!)

I would summarize this song as "fantastically varied". It moves a long way, feels like an adventure :P but it achieves it at a good pace. Despite its relatively drawn-out nature, I never found myself bored! I have a habit of impatience when it comes to listening to music unless I'm sure that I'll like something, so take it from me that this song is very engaging.

I love the bitcrushing, and I love the squaaaares. Omg. I can't express my love for those little waveforms enough. So bright. I love the little bits of percussion you have going on, the tiny intricacies and snare drills. Panning, too.

A lot of sections of this song remind me of *something* - I'm not sure what. Something video-gamey and nostalgic, but I can't really remember anything specific. Terraria? Steven Universe? I have no idea. It might partially be your sound design and the scale the song is in. But I love it. It's so... crystalline.

I don't usually use such vague terms/phrases when talking about music, but I think it means I had more of an emotional reaction to this song than usual. Or something? Haha.

Fantastic work, for real. Such a big song, I can feel the achievement just listening to it :P

GOD I LOVE THOSE SQUARES

SkyeWint responds:

Geoplex! Hi hi! Good to see you <3

There are actually about two-three different melodies, they just are varied depending on the section and fit around the rest of the song to make it so no section repeats 100%.

Funny thing about the little waveforms - I've found that my style has started revolving more and more around the little waveforms doing a lot of melody/bass stuff, with background pads and other chord/sfx stuff being the more complicated synth stuff. I dunno. It works really well - simple waveforms pierce songs GREAT.

Anyway... thank you! I do feel like it's a big achievement for me, so I super appreciate you saying that. :3 Bye!

So great. I love every little bit of this song. To add to what Geoplex said, it does remind me of Terraria and Pikmin (and probably other games or movies, the band Owl City comes to mind) but I also recognize the originality in it. Great work! I am envious!

SkyeWint responds:

Sweet, thanks! And - no worries. It was all due to a metric fuckton of work - so I can at least say that if you want to make something phenomenal, you can! It just takes a lot of effort. :) But you can do it!

YAAAS!!!

SkyeWint responds:

WOOOOOO!!!

Such a peaceful unique words cannot describe, so I'm just gonna give you your well earned 5. ;)

SkyeWint responds:

WORDS. Quite useful, but sometimes a music is worth a million. Thanks, man!
