Reviews for "CRAVEN"

reminds me of another series

Koobazaur responds:

Which one?

Hey, this is a nice little experimental game. It does allow you to burn a few minutes, struggling to survive by feeding on corpses, avoiding wolves and growing your pack. And that's about it. Apart from that and the insane difficulty of the night(which from what I've played it never ends) there's not much else to this game. There are many ways this game could be improved, like some sort of music in the background, more detailed maps, an step-by-step difficulty systems. You could have split it up into levels, and a level ends after like... midnight. I also don't get why you lose the game at night once your pack leaves you considering that when you start, you are alone and you don't lose the game right away. A better main-menu UI and some achivements or upgrades could've turned this game into a real time waster. I've made a small let's play video of it right here: https://youtu.be/SLoh5a2oZ3g . This game is ok as a starting point, but you could build a lot on it. As such I've given it a high rating. So good luck with your future designs.

Koobazaur responds:

Thanks for the detailed feedback and video (watching now!) Yea it's just an experiment so wasn't meant to be big, but definitely a good baseline for a longer title with all the things you listed.

The night - tbh, that was kind of a last minute addition. I had the main day gampleay and everything working but being a small experimental title, I needed a way to "end" it somehow. So I threw that in as a bit of a stopgap / end goal (how long can you survive)?

There's probably better solutions but that's something to explore in another experiment :)

'Its was ok" it had nice creepy background 'music' , purpose of the game does die out fast nothing to interesting, other than this it was a ok game

i really liked this game; it was interesting and its unique in the way that i havent seen a game similar to it. nice game man

First off, I really liked the environment created by your game. The landscape with the distant mountains and the forrest are beautiful and evoke a scene from an eastern european medieval setting (the parallax scrolling contributes alot). In fact I think that the setting, along with the creepy flock of crows, and overall "dark" theme are what drew me in to the game immediately. I applaud you on that. But I must say, that the game falls somewhat short on the actual gameplay (and I know that this game is just an experiment...of sorts). The controls are simple enough, and the movement of the bird with the controls is actually kind of fun, as you have to somewhat calculate where the bird will land. But the brevity of the game is somewhat of a detractor for me. Since the environment and characters are so alluring, and I am already commited to them, I would expect more to happen. For example, as you scroll left or right, the setting could change, or there could be more obstacles, or in general something different, maybe a new type of tree or different colored grass. In general...maybe what I am desiring to see is more variety? Maybe seasons, like winter spring summer and fall... idk just thinking out loud here.

I like that the wolves can eat the birds and the cadavers but I don't like that the birds can not attack the wolves. Maybe it would be nice if the birds could perch on a tree and wait for the wolves to pass? Idk, just more of my thoughts. But for the most part, I like the game experience and I like what you came up with.

Koobazaur responds:

Thanks, nice to hear the setting drew you in :) It's all using free assets, but I spent good amount of time researching and tweaking them to match and get the right feel.

I am happy with how it turned out, even if small in scope. Definitely a good "baseline" for a much bigger game if I ever wanted to, with a lot of room for growth and variation that could be added in :)
