Reviews for "The Mirror"

pretty awesome and interesting I wrote to the mirror "im FREE!! peace out loser!" XD

EnameledKoi responds:

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I'm happy to hear that you wrote to the mirror - I was wondering if anyone would take advantage of that :)

I really liked this game. I guess I just have an affection for unreliable narrators and plotlines. But then the ending came and ruined it, making it look like a cheesy advertisement. In any case, this was very well written and satirical. Ignoring the cheesy advertisement ending, here's a quote that applies to this game- "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." -Nietzsche

EnameledKoi responds:

Thanks for playing and giving feedback. The quote is great, too. I have a question for you about the ending, if you don't mind. Is there a way that breaking free of the mirror could have been presented that you would have found less cheesy, or is the whole premise of being trapped by the mirror's assessment of yourself until you reject it just not working for you?

Despite bad reviews, I enjoyed this. Yes, it's simple and yes, it's on rails. However, the message it gives it a pretty good one. I liked the little flavor text at the beginning of the "adventure" and that the options slowly disappeared as the story went on. Also, the second message I think a lot of people might have missed: when you be what others want you to be it literally steals all your options. That's why it didn't matter what you chose to do it the first 3 run throughs. All in all, I think it's a good start with a positive message (although I wouldn't bill it as an RPG, more like a fantasy story).

EnameledKoi responds:

Thank you for playing and for your thoughtful review. I'm glad you liked the message and the writing. I'd definitely appreciate any suggestions you have for future improvement as I work on the next release.

I've had trouble figuring out how to classify it as an interactive story or a fantasy RPG. Technically its category is Simulation: Other, and the rest of the info I included as tags.

It's not very much of a game and the message is insultingly simple despite advertisements of depth.

EnameledKoi responds:

Thanks for playing and giving feedback. If you don't mind I'd like to ask a question or two. Regarding the message being simple, did you mean that it's too easy to find the hidden option, or just that in general the topic is bland and uninteresting? Is there a way you think it could be given more depth?

Some of the text/story was quite well written and entertaining. It wasn't much of a game though.

EnameledKoi responds:

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the writing. If you have any suggestions on what you would have liked to have seen to make it feel more like a game, I'd love to hear it as I work on the next release.
