Where it loses half a star for me is with its game mechanics. I really like that the game requires well timed commands as it again adds another layer of challenge to the game. That being said some of the timing needs to be way to well executed for me. A lot of gamers really enjoy games off that ilk but personally I like a little more forgiveness in my platformers.
On the other side of the picture, I really enjoyed both the sound effects and the knife/melee clone death animations, thought that they possessed a corny but funny overly grotesque self awareness that made me actually chuckle out loud every time I got an arm ripped off. I liked that the Grid function allowed for a different dimension of game play, which both kept the game engaging and meshed nicely with the overall meta strategy. It didn't feel like padding but instead was a genuine extension of the game play. Add that to the strategic platformer elements of the game and you have yourself a fantastic way to kill 20 minutes.
