Reviews for "Rob And Aliens"

i like it, simple but have a good desing

wooood responds:

Thank you! I'm glad that you like it

Well i liked it a lot and very good as a first game, here was good sprites and so on but just a couple of improvements:
If you hold down the jump button and continually jump, I've noticed that you jump to a lesser height than if you just press the button once, which is annoying if you're trying to clear multiple platforms quickly.
also, maybe implement a particle effect when you land?
anyway, great platormer

I agree, this is good points.

First game? You've done a great job.

I'm enjoying pretty much everything about this. The look is nostalgic, but you make use of the most effective 8-bit feature: the bright solid colors. Reminds me of some old NES and Master System games. The only thing I didn't like was the clouds. Too blocky. I'm sure there's a way to smooth them out.

The music is awesome; friendly and catchy, but just synthetic enough to support the "alien" theme. I really like those cicada sounds that plays throughout the game. It really adds to that outside "feel." The other sound effects are simple, but that's to be expected in a game of this sort.

Rob is cute and likable, especially with his little ascot. :) His animation is nice. I really the way you tied those dog themes into the game: energy from bones, checkpoints are dog houses, his weapon is his bark. In fact, I love how he attacks enemies not with is bark per se, but with his bark radius. It adds some tactics and flexibility to the game play. Also, I don't know if players realize that, as you didn't mention it, but Rob can stun enemies by jumping on them. This can be important when jumping into small patrolled areas and making sure you don't get shot while setting up an attack.

The game starts very easy, but it shows
The controls are even

This is the second time Newgrounds has posted a review before I finished it, because I accidentally hit a button. If we could edit, it wouldn't be a problem, but we can't. Something has to be done about this.
To finish what I was saying, the level design is nice, because the levels are long and fun, so 8 is probably a good number to end at, particularly with the difficult ramping up.
You even succeeded on the control. A lot of platformers on Newground have clunky jumping mechanisms, characters sliding around, and sprites running off edges because the jump doesn't execute that the extreme edge of a platform. You seem to have thought ahead on this.
In fact, you seem to have thought everything out pretty well. I'm sure some story would be nice, maybe a boss or two, but for a first game, this is quite impressive. You should be proud for posting it, and I hope to see more in the future.

There is not much, that I can add to the previous points, but.

Things that annoyed me the most:
1. End of the level is indistiguishable from checkpoints.
2. Jump doesn't work properly.
3. And the music.. goddamn music!

Other that, that's pretty nice game.

For the lesser points you can watch my video review, but only if you want, of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNgGXmYw7IA

Overall good game, but the transitions are a little long for me. Other than that you got some cool beans here.
