Reviews for "Duck Shaving Simulator 2015"

10/10 Truly a thought-provoking masterpiece. Even more fun than real shaving

Levels 1-5: Wow, it is harder than I thought!
Levels 5-10: AaAaaRRrgGhh!
Levels 10-11: How can I do that?!! HOW??
Level 12: It's time to use right click to trick this f****** game.
Levels 13-15: I need a faster mouse!! SOMEONE GIVE ME A FASTER MOUSE!!
Level 16: This game sucks! *Rage quit

I would say that this game is okay.

I would say it's not bad. But in later levels after 10 or 8 your razor it's destroyed way easily. Instead of having a message you have to wait until the beard goes down to the collector machine. Also the soap doesn't last that long (for gameplay purposes), it would've been better if had a time box so we would've known and be quick to move it in the right box. Not a bad game and good choice with the music for the stages, way intense.
4/5
8.5/10

Thanks for the review! You can press "s" to skip waiting for the beard to fall. I'll work on adding a visible timer right away.

Edit: Added a timer

Nice work. Fun to play, nice music and fair gameplay. Keep up the good work!

Gharrot responds:

Thank you :D

The game is clever. At this point I'm at level 10, and I've had just about enough of it. The fact I have to collect soap in one place, to move to arrows in another place, is clever. When the arrow is between an INSTANT DEATH skull and shark, it is a dick move.
This is a distinction is an important one in game design, when something feels difficult because of my lack of skill, it is a genuine challenge. However, when something feels difficult as a result of developer choice, or luck, it feels like the fault of the developer. You tread this line thinly.
In terms of mechanics, the game is good, in terms of design, not so much.
As a result, the longer I play the game, the less I like it. So, my final comments are that you should disable right clicks, rework the shitty inconsistent visuals, and see if you can improve your skill at level design.

Gharrot responds:

Thanks for the review, I definitely plan on revisiting these mechanics later on. My biggest difficulty while making the game was definitely the visuals. I spent quite a while trying to define the area where the shark appears, but nothing really worked. The difficulty spike between levels 1-10 and 11-20 was another area I was concerned about and probably didn't do enough to fix. I'll go check out level 10 and right-clicking.

Edit: Removed the skulls in lvl 10 and added an indicator where the shark shows up. Couldn't remove right-clicking because of my compiler only targets up to version 10 though :/. Looking for a fix to this.
