Reviews for "ascend"

Not as good as I expected when I saw the cover screen. The graphics were not good similar to the controls. Also the two endings were disappointing. They are highly similar
0 lives remaining: The screen turns to the place where the girl is buried in a cloudy weather. The girl's dead body starts to get out of the grave.
I thought the "at least 1 life" ending would have the protagonist awakened in a hospital instead of being dead.

Instead what I get is this

at least 1 life remaining: The screen turns to where the girl was buried in a sunny day.

There's no big difference between the endings.

As a platformer, it's all well and good. And if you want to make something really hard that demands a near-perfect playthrough, that's your prerogative; the fact that after a certain point death pretty much locks you into the worst ending kind of blows, but hey, you can always try again.

What I find absolutely *inexcusable,* given all of the above, is a lack of any evident way to restart your game from the beginning, short of reloading the entire page. If I find myself in that unfortunate position of having run out of flowers to collect and still dying, I'd be relatively all right with just starting back at the beginning, but give us a built-in option, at least. I really hate having to sit through the ads all over again.

the only problem with this game is the girl sometimes will walk to far without my say so and walk onto the death spikes i don't know if this was a thing you added to the game to give it alittle bit more of a difficulty spike but it gets rather bothersome other then that stellar dark game you got here

This is a very mediocre game, don't let be fooled by the reviews. Here's my two cents:

- movement speed is disproportionately low compared to jumping
- there is no way to look up or down, the screen pans way too slow
- the health bar system is pretty much broken: once you die, you lose all your collected health....so that's a waste, you basically complete the game with 1 health...just the way you started.
- this point is related to the earlier point about not seeing below. Once you fall down, you are likely to fall in a spke-pit.....from which you cannot really get out easilty because of the poor movement speed. Dunzo.
- a game with a theme of horror CANNOT ALLOW ITSELF TO BE BORING - this is boring

Pros:

- the music is atmospheric, albeit monotonous
- the character design looks nice

Hope you can do something about these few things.

Really good short platform game... interesting art style and a very subtle way of delivering the artistic message... the progression was not linear but the fact that you could get to the ending no matter which way you took compensated a lot for it making it seem that you have a choice in the matter. The atmosphere and the music really fitted the game too. The occasional clunky jumps together with the relative short experience might be the only drawbacks. I did make a small let's play video of it right here: https://youtu.be/FLSAUDeHRXU ... All in all it's pretty good for a 4 week game, and probably even better if it's the first game ever made by the author...
