Reviews for "Deep State"

I admit that the game is slow, and that's probably the only reason I'd ding 1/2 a star. Overall, I really appreciated the idea of raising fear to be able to pass legislation, and then quelling the fear in order to gain more revenue. I got victory in 40 years, I really donno what took some of the other reviewers 60+ to do it.

The only thing I would suggest to make the game great versus good is some sort of graphics that go along with what you're doing in the game.

Though I'm not a huge fan of games like this, I find a few of them fun. Reasoning it got 4.5/5 stars is because it's such a good game, but it's very slow, but also has major potential to become so much better. Keep updating/working on it, and hopefully release a sequel in the future.

4.5: pretty good political game. not suuuuuuper well-balanced because there are so few ways to make money, so you spend the first 20 years or so spamming 'extortion' over and over and over until you can afford to do several fear operations in a row and get some actual legislation passed.

the fear/pacification seems a tad off because in reality you can spread fear amongst people in one place while pacifying people in another place, but I'm not sure how the game would be balanced without it, so I guess compromises must be made.

I zoom in with my browser because I have a tiny screen. Flash games that stay small even when I zoom in are very very frustrating. Either let flash auto-zoom, or do not disable the right-click menu so I can select 'show all'.

Hey,

Thanks for the response. I'll try and fix the resizing stuff now. I did some stuff in weird ways because I'm not a super experienced Haxe dev and that meant the scaling was all over the place, that being why I've disabled it for now. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and try and push an update out.

Edit: I've added scaling back in. The engine we used is bitmap based so it's a bit blurry, but it should scale if you zoom now.

UGH. This game needs some serious balancing. Okay, I'm saving up for the Public Surveillance Act, so I do a bunch of Extortion operations; however, my Fear keeps going DOWN, which means I HAVE to keep buying Petty Crime...but each Petty Crime costs $100,000, and each Extortion only adds net $25,000. So I buy 5 Extortions for each Petty Crime and sloooooooowly get my money all the way up to $1,000,000, at about year 21 or so.

...and then I find out that in order to buy the higher money-making operation, I need $1,000,000. In fact I can't even buy another Extortion because I was in such a hurry to do SOMETHING in this stupid game that I only have $24,000 left. Wow, what a waste of half an hour.

Ok game if you have much time,. My main critic gameplaywise is that it isnĀ“t transparent at what fear level you need how many pacifying units to keep the population surpressed. 4/5

But I substract a star because the game froze when I clicked the "Abolish democracy" act, which is VERY frustrating after puting quite some time into the game.

starmengames responds:

Hi,

Really sorry the final game crash affected you. It doesn't really make up for it but this has since been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
