Reviews for "The Awakening RPG"

Of the start, the game doesn't work for me. My character glitches to the left, and all I can do is walk on top of the trees. Can't do anything else. It's a shame, looking at the reviews, this looked like a fun game.

RockLou responds:

I still have no idea how people manage to glitch like this, I haven't been able to recreate it.
But I would ask of you to try to start over atleast once.

This game truly made me feel as though I were playing an RPG. The fact that this was completed as a one-man team is truly remarkable and you, sir, deserve the utmost respect.
The combat system is unique and while reminiscent of the Active Time Battle, it's completely different in that each action taken has its own impact. I found the dodge feature to be quite nifty as it made reaction time a key aspect in the game.
The storyline is definitely noteworthy. I found myself enjoying the part where you encounter the Golden Demon. For some reason, facing off against a noteworthy opponent gives me the chills. Perhaps that's why I battled the Four Fiends in Final Fantasy IV over and over again, not just for the background music.
That brings me to my next point. The music is absolutely amazing. Especially the BGM when inside the Blackwhisper Caves. The eerie feeling actually had me anticipating something shocking.
As an artist, I could appreciate the game's artwork instantly(though I don't think that has any bearing on appreciating the art). Graphics shouldn't be what defines a game, although it is an important aspect. However, there are even times when games like these can appeal to you. I really enjoyed the concept of the Phantom Stalker.
Though I was saddened at the fact that the game ends somewhat abruptly, it still keeps me asking certain questions and makes me start to theorize certain things that will happen next. When this happens, I know that I've really enjoyed this game.
This was an amazing flash game regardless of how long it was. If, by any chance, you intend to finish this, then consider me a fan. Good luck with your future endeavors!

RockLou responds:

Thanks for that in-depth review! ^^ It's so nice to hear that you enjoy the game on multiple levels. Some people have said the graphics are one of the least impressive aspects of the game, so I'm glad you liked the graphics. It balances it out a little. :P
I agree the music is great, although I cannot take credit for that.
I probably won't ever finish it though. I just hope people enjoy it for what it is.
Anyways, again, thank you.

If a game is not finished it should say it is not finished at start!!!

Call it a Demo or Beta or something, but to play a game and not be able to finish it is frustrating.

The game concept is great, gameplay is nice, but it is buggy, it lags when play with the mage, and there was a bug where I could not play with the mage until near the end of the game, even if it said that the mage was traveling with me in my party, also a dialog box marking an item quest was stuck in a part of the layout of the screen even after I finished the quest.

RockLou responds:

It didn't seem necessary to mention the story isn't finished. And it's not a demo or a beta because this is the whole game, I won't be finishing it... Unless the demand is huge.

I'll look into the mage thing, you should be able to fight with him. That has never happened to me.
As for the quest marker glitch, I really thought I had fixed that by now...

+ Original Combat system, character customization, interesting storyline and lore, allowing house and furniture purchases, little rewards hidden around, abundant side-quests, and the fact it's made by one man is impressive.

- Buggy, no ending.

Personal issues: No instructions for the minigame, generic beginning, and the medals don't all work.

Considering the amount of work put in and the number of people who worked on it, the negative traits are excusable though. Is the new game you're working on a sequel, prequel, or not connected to this at all?

RockLou responds:

Thank you for the review! It was nice of you to give a 5 despite the flaws. :P
I never thought the minigames needed instructions, it's pretty self-explanatory isn't it?
Although I agree the beginning is generic and unimpressive. If I started with this game today, I would make the beginning much more captivating.

The new game has nothing to do with this. It's a game about evolution.

Damn great game. I loved it, played it twice, discovered every secret (like the poems). I loved the universe, the game design, the character customization (I wanted some more torso options, not only the jacket, but I'm still happy with the big amount of customization), the combat is great, I loved the lore, very cool. I just wish it was ended. I found some glitches (once I finished the giant monster long toungue in the cave, it broke, I restarted the game, then character was sliding through the cave walls until it landed on firm ground). I hope you get the big feedbak for this game and maybe finish it, with help or without, in a part 2 game. Thanks for the game, I really enjoyed it.

RockLou responds:

Thank you very much. Glad you liked the lore, customization and all that jazz.
I will look into that weird glitch you're talking about.
