Reviews for "Phoenotopia"

Have to agree on the timing aspect of combat. It's absolutely horrible. The story itself seems nice. The first obstacle in duri forest is just dickish and ensures a death if you don't think. (Hit the switch again.) I try to line up to hit the frog enemies and end up running into them due to sliding with the arrow keys. It looks quite enjoyable, but the wonky movement just ruins it. I suggest taking SKK717's advice and take it down and work on the running. (And it also can't be lag induced because I have a decent computer and these graphics obviously aren't demanding.)

feels like cave story

Jesus christ, i would so much as keep playing, this is one of those games that are known for being very long, but, even if it may be just be the first weapon, the bat is TERRIBLE, i REALLY hope that other weapons have different area of attack and range, becaue i died twice on the first forest just because of how hard it was to hit something.

So let me get this straight - I spend the last 2 days trying to get a flying jelly to drop their slime, and all I have to show for it is over-priced Lilac Honey, which I can already get from the bee lab? Dick move.

The art is great, and you nailed the RPG elements to perfection. The story is a little strained (two factions of humans, and the focus is on other aliens coming in?), there is NO way of seeing where you still need to go to get Moonstones and Heart upgrades, so I've done every map 3-4 times and still am missing a few. And the mechanics?! The bothersome response with controls wouldn't be so bad in combat if there wasn't this "back jump" and I could actually face the monsters I'm attacking. Also, $999 for a piece of armor that brings your health back up to 10? Might have been beneficial when the enemies didn't bull rush me all the time and take away 6-9 health every attack.

I haven't finished the game, so I can't speak for the ending - but with some of the short-sighted aspects of the game, along with quirky controls... I can't give this game more than 3 stars. I DO like this game - but it's more of a chore than anything.

Not bad but the combat is the weak point in my opinion. I think this game would've been better as a turn-based.
