Reviews for "Perdition"

amazing, i cant even describe the experience like i want to, it raises so many questions throughout the game. great atmosphere, story, and music everything is perfect

This was an amazing experience, from the storyline, to the presentation, to the creepy existential questions that arise as you think of the developments in the game's story. It got me hooked almost instantly, and kept me mesmerized with its somber and ominous tone.

First of all, I'd like to compliment the game's stellar presentation. The graphics, relying on a pixelated retro style, are perfectly atmospheric, somber and at times terrifying, keeping the player on edge and setting a fantastically dark and macabre tone. Dark hallways, creepy enemies, gut-like wires hanging from the walls and ceiling (sometimes holding bodies of androids and monsters), death animations depicting exactly what happens to the character, and an overall surreal/dystopian look to every piece of scenery and every creature work to create an incredibly ominous setting of fear and despair. The music is also extremely adequate, composed of macabre, somber, nearly funeral-like tunes combined, when adequate to the situation, with the desolating sounds of creepy ghastly moans that add an extra layer of legitimate dread to the mix. With all those features, this game's presentation sets the stage for its story perfectly, making it an extremely engaging and at times truly upsetting experience, becoming ever more dark and ominous the more you proceed. The least disturbing parts of the scenery are the ones that are found in the surface, but even they are quite macabre in what is seen and heard in them, like executioners, dying slaves, and other stuff.

Second, I'd like to praise this game's story for being legitimately cerebral and mysterious. You play as a lost android who wakes up in the domain of an abyss-dwelling mastermind that is apparently kind and gentle, and as you ascend, you discover another mastermind, this one being extremely rude and approaching you with a slavemaster tone as he demands you to do awful things. As you move on through the game, you find out more about the background story of those two opposing forces, and things get more and more deep and engaging the more you advance. A few existential questions are raised too, but I can't really talk about those here without ruining the fun.

As for gameplay, it is simplistic at best, and slightly slow at worst. The first few sections are pretty much a straight-forward platformer with no hazards and no enemies. Once you ascend from the abyss for the first time, meeting the "white text" mastermind, obstacles and foes start to appear, such as ominous looking spikes, executioners that shoot bullets, gates that can only be opened by flicking switches and certain blocks you can push to give yourself a boost in order to get across certain unaccessible parts, all of which make the sections more interesting and challenging. By this point, the game is already a pretty engaging experience, but that's due to story and atmosphere first, gameplay second. When you enter the abyss a second time, you recieve weapons to fight your enemies. That's when things start to look a bit more like an action game, except the weapons are somewhat slow and not as satisfying to use as they could be. There is a close ranged sword, a very slow laser gun, and that's it, but at least they allow you to take down the foes that were bugging you (there are only two kinds, by the way, the shooting dudes and the spider-like monsters). When it comes down to it, the gameplay is kept simple and not very dynamical, but that doesn't make it bad, since it's perfectly playable, satisfying and enjoyable for the most part, especially given that the platforming and fighting sections often pose a moderate challenge, and always feel rewarding once beat.

In conclusion, this is the kind of game in which the gameplay takes a backseat, and the story and atmosphere are set to be the dominant elements of the experience. This approach works perfectly here, delivering a truly somber and upsetting, yet involving, memorable and amazing playthrough. Overall, I think it would be unfair to give this game anything less than a full five star rating. 5/5.

The game wont load for me! Please fix. >:(

I like this a lot but I keep on getting stuck in the scene where it explains how I am near being harvested for energy for the Sun God dude and I can't get out, is that supposed to happen or is there something glitching? I respect the ideology of the game, I think it's very cool actually, but I keep getting stuck and I have NO CLUE what is going on. Help?
Otherwise this is really cool and especially the graphics are awesome! :)

Rapidly press the left and right keys to escape the hold of the wires.

So far I got Seduced Fool and Monster. I absolutely love this game and it's entire concept within itself.
