Reviews for "A Kitty Dream"

how the hell in cute little cats can i get that crown that has horns on it?! i try and try but when i just to get it the cat won't do a double jump it just does a normal jump

Legendary Game, i love the graphics, metroidvania style and the hability zones, this game is exactly from the type i like

Wonderful!!

a little shorter than anticipated, but still an awesome game,

A lot like Minoware pointed out, the game shares a lot of things with The Valley Rule like the sound effects (I would really suggest finding or creating new ones. I know the one used for jumping came with Stencyl), the text you used with conveying new power (you've obtained the will to dash), and two power ups that work together (which is still good), and the relaxing environment. However, this ones departs from the other in music, the inclusion of secrets and characters and enemies (I like the toast joke :), taking away the isolation of the first one (with that small inclusion that indicated a wrong doing on the part of the kitten). this game also appears to be larger in size and takes longer, which is also good.

I did find two things that might need fixing.
- The dream level where there are green blocks you can push around. There were times where when I pushed two together, they would explode and end up somewhere else (though this might be due to me pushing a lot of them off screen. Did you mean for the player to be able to push them off screen because this was helpful). Also, if you push one and quickly leave the screen, and come back, they will be in the last place they moved to before the player leaves the screen.
- the screen going dark when using the dash attack is a cool idea, but if you use it a bunch of times in a row on the ground when trying to get somewhere fast, it just looks like the screen is flashing, though not a big deal.

I'm still impressed with your work (I'm also impressed with your hiding places for those secrets). Keep it up and good luck in the contest!

This is a very cute and polished game for a Nitrome Jam entry, and I enjoyed it, in spite of it not being very original

The presentation is composed of cute graphics, awesome 8-bit music that goes from soothing to upbeat when necessay, and it all looks very anime-ish and retro, matching the feeling of the game overall. It's all very cute and charming, and I love how every different dream has its own characteristic music and sound effects.

Gameplay consisting of exploration, backtracking and acquiring new powers to get to previously unreachable locations is nothing new, but thanks to a pretty simple and interesting layout and level design, coupled with a handful of secrets, this game turned out to be very relaxing and enjoyable to play overall. I like the puzzles to be solved, and the exploration to be done, and it all feels pleasant.

There are a few problems, though. Firstly, the difficulty in this game seems to be composed of long easy parts, with a few frustrating short parts in a few places within them, and that bothered me a bit (say, the part where we have to dash across spikes to get a square). Second, it's a bit hard to dash in mid air, because if I'm pressing up and right to make a jump to the right, for instance, and I try to dash up, I have to remember to release the right button, but that's a bit annoying.

Still, in spite of those, it was still pretty solid for a Nitrome Jam, and a very fun game overall.
