Reviews for "Ditto"

A classic concept but done exceptionally well!
The audio and visuals are really crisp, and they pop even though they are made in a minimalist sort of way. Good stuff!
Can't wait to see what you guys come out with next.
Keep up the great work!

epic idea, well placed into the game, love the gameplay, nicely fluid
5/5
not a fav, but its a grown-up thing to aknowledge a fine piece of art when it rings yer screen

A piece of art, if this was a green light game I would definitey vote for it

Leave it to Nitrome to take an idea that had, for the most part, become stale and overdone both fresh and innovative.

The graphics are a mix of Knytt Stories and Cave Story; a stylized pixel beauty with as an immersive a quality that a flash game can create. It is an abundance of the little things that catch your eye. The simple white and black characters looking about when not moving, the motion of the cape when running and jumping, the water effects hitting the ground. It all looks crisp and beautiful.

The sound is also fantastic. Early on there is no music, just the sound of your character jumping and grunting (his, her, its?) way through each level. The character noises made me feel like this was a 2-D Ico. Different platforms have different sounds when landed upon. Later on when enemies enter the game music comes in and adds a foreboding tone.

Gameplay is where Ditto really shines. The jumping and floating physics are precise and I never felt like I died or failed due to poor level design. Enemies (including those damn moving blocks) are all manageable if you figure out their pattern or movements. The gameplay is also divergent as in some levels you are only the white character and the problems you must solve to finish a level never seem too repetitive as they change frequently. On that note, the level of difficulty slowly ramps up and levels that would seem frustratingly impossible if played in the beginning feel like a completable challenge. My only reservation is that collecting all the floating diamonds can be exceptionally difficult especially in later levels and the fact that if you fail you must start at the beginning of the level and have to get the diamonds all over again. Finally often there is more than one way to finish each level and each level is short enough as not to be such a painful slog to reach that door.

Good show Nitrome, good show.

Definitely unique in its own way.
