Reviews for "Faint"

The music is awesome

the sound effects are extremely annoying. every time you press a key it starts over

I usually like especially-indie games like this game, but it's not the case. This game doesn't respect your time, that's it.

But wait, there is even more to say, it doesn't respect your ears too -- that walking sound is just super annoying, why it's so load in comparison to other sound? Why not just leave muting to silence istead of filling player's ears with loud noise over and over?

And that's not all. Ever heard about fake difficulty? Here you can have some of this. Not very big amount but still... The game just makes your life harder without any reason. Pretty sure authour thinks it makes experience more feel-oriented. It's not. Quite the opposite, it just distract from your observation. In fear of players who would rush this game author decided to force slow gameplay. But too much forcing. No, I just frustrated and don't feel like I shouldn't drop it.
Maybe I could finish it instead of writing all this text (which takes a lot of time, because I'm not native speaker), but meh.

Overall: nice idea, good effort, but indigested experience here, indigested feature there. It's possible to make it drastically better by changing very little. But now flaws just outweight the good side.

I thought this game is very good. As of when I am writing this review, I have gotten the alternate ending, but not the regular one. Any hints would be appreciated.

You actually made me sign up for an account on Newgrounds, so congrats.
This game was worth every minute I put into it. It's one of those that you can't describe in terms of gameplay alone. It conveys feelings to the player : fear, wonder, sadness maybe.

The music is good, and it's made great because it fits very well with the overall theme of this short game. The reuse of the same notes all along emphasises the point, there is only one music, only one character that is important to this game.

The graphics, while nothing stellar, are done well enough so that they add to the ambiance presented here and clues about the theme are laid out here and there for us to understand what exactly happened/is happening. I found myself knowing what it was all about before I got to the end of the game.

The gameplay is unique, something new and simplistic in nature. While it is at first confusing, perserverance and contemplation being part of the game, it is understandable. When you see the game as something to experience, it is part of the fun.

The theme itself is nothing that has never been done before, but the game does well enough to makes the player feel tied to the experience. On that note, again, the music part really helps make the player search and ask oneself : "What's going on ? Why the music ?"
I do not, however, see the point in the multiple endings(there is 2 of them), since there is little that changes gameplay-wise to get it. Although getting one or the other does change the outlook that one has over the "story", a keen mind will already have deduced the other ending by this point.
Still, it is an experience that is well worth the time spent understanding it, and I am happy to have played this. Overall a great piece : 9/10
