Reviews for "Day X"

This game has a lot of potential, but it has some significant flaws. With a little improvement, it could be exceptional.

Pros:
-The atmosphere of this game suits the content well. Its eerie and subtle, unlike many games that have repetitive, jarring music that detracts from gameplay.
-The opening sequence offers some fun philosophical prodding without getting too preachy. Its very show-don't-tell which makes for a good attention catcher.
-There is no in-game text (at least so far, I didn't finish it.) to distract the player.
-While the graphics are nothing to brag about, they suit the environment well and they are easy to understand.

Cons:
-The programming needs improvement. Backtracking from some of the frames brings the character backwards to the wrong frame. Hit detection can be shaky.
-The game is hard and repetitive, which makes it boring and difficult to finish. I found it tricky to motivate myself to go to each successive frame when I saw that the game was getting harder too quickly. Even creeping forward in order to battle one enemy at a time didn't help much.
-The game offers very little reward. Getting the gun helps. If there are better weapons later in the game (again, I didn't get that far) that may help more. If the scenery becomes more morbid and interesting, and if the enemies become more varied, that may also help.

Note that my review is very limited as I did not progress very far before giving up. The game was just too difficult.

rottenmage responds:

Thanks. It was our first attempt making a minimalistic "story" game but we feared that it might get boring so we tried to "pump" up the action. We hope to make a longer version with progressive difficulty.
