Reviews for "Ratchet Head"

Awesome, challenging, and fun simple game!
I like the 8-bit graphics and the song loop, definitely adds to the intensity.
I only wish there were more to the game.
Maybe more bosses, larger arena(s), and upgrades etc.
Oh well, I guess I can hope for some type of sequel!
Keep up the great work.

loved the game.....
i would have loved it if u had included a "control selection screen" or WASD =D

I see the #NESjam tag and this is very much in the vein of an NES style game in terms of design. You don't get the same angles and options for attack as your opponent, but you have to get through it anyway. I think a 10k and bigger health bar would be a good "Hell mode" option for people who just really like punishing themselves, but the 1k HP is doable but can easily set you back if you make mistakes. Part of the game is recognizing the patterns of attack and the safe zones. People can learn quickly that they're safe from King Space's spread shot if they stand directly below it, although then they'd have to watch out for the dropping missiles. The missiles can always be avoided by standing on the middle skull block on the ground, but depending on the pattern there are other safe spots as well. Standing up against the wall may not seem like it's a good thing to do, but I utilized it by knowing the character's hitbox, which was also good. Meanwhile the laser strike can be avoided by standing just underneath King Space's right tentacle, or its left claw. Left claw is easier, larger sweet spot. All those individual patterns are alright, but you're dealing with multiple attacks at once, along with King Space sometimes just deciding to blitz you with its body.

It took me about fifteen minutes to beat it. I died about 6 or 7 times. Half the deaths were my own fault. The other three times, I got caught in a spread shot trap where I couldn't dodge because my lateral escape avenues were cut out at the same time KS rushed me. No way to keep from dying. Fortunately that didn't happen so often I felt like the AI was exploiting it. Seemed random. Actually I felt like it was too easy because a lot of the time the AI made King Space bury its eye into the walls, to where I could shoot it but it couldn't shoot me. I guess that gives some free hits to people to allow a sense of progress in light of the one-hit-kills, so I'm not docking points for it.

Sound effects were minimalist. Helped to keep from breaking concentration. Liked the music loop. Even the ending, which was basically an old school acknowledgement screen in the vein of "Thank for play!" was a good homage to the old gaming style. Nice.

The 2 and a half stars i'm giving is for the music and artwork which I enjoyed a great deal. Other then that the repetitive button mashing, the small screen size, and the lag i'm getting really bring down the score on this. Also there was no point in a jump button.

Maybe if you gave it some level's for him to jump on, some side attacks for the jumping to make sense, a bigger screen and auto fire and this could be a smash hit.

decent looking game,while made.

personally, for my taste, the screen is a bit too small for a bullet hell, and the fact you have to fire a thousand times, without 'auto fire'... kinda killed my want to even try this game at all.

If there was an auto fire (or even just make the gun rapid fire when the button is held) would work.

Big enemy, kills you on touch, dont mind. the fact that 3 shots take up half thescreen, not so much.

Smaller shots, auto fire, and i'd try this again.

bullet hell games work because your small and able to avoid the shots, not a big slow thing where bullets take up so much space you cant physically avoid them.
