Reviews for "Pact"

Yeah, yeah another game from Hyptosis. The problem is that it is a JRPG.Problem with those is that they don't fit my play style. But I decided to see what you have to offer and I was surprised but in a bad way.1st - on The Children of Brinn you said that you would like to make a mix of RPG and that game-book-style of game(like your own Saggitarian)and that you would add more graphics but not stray from the idea.Well, you strayed, you even trashed the idea and went to a whole different direction. In fact, the only sign that the 2 are linked is Will and the previous' game name in the 1st dialogue.I couldn't finish the game because of the grinding. The story seemed pretty generic and i almost immediately guessed what it will be.DragonessUniverse confirmed my doubts.Being as a RPG this is generic.I managed to get to the 4th map before I left the game. The effects weren't anything imcredibly innovative and it would be nice to see characters move when hit.Music was fine.It fit the style of the game. All in all this is nothing new or interesting and I hoped to see another of those game-book-like game that you make but with just a bit of improvement on the RPG style.Make The Children of Brinn 2 but make it your style.

ok here we go
pros:
-good story line,
-animation is adequate and has a good feel for an rpg
-like the character info and layout of equipment
-love the individuality you gave each character
-skills available were very authentic as far as rpg attacks go

cons:
-no skill tree
-no choice of equipment
-your gold increase is outrageous and unrealistic, no shop keeper would raise the price because of invested skills gold was almost useless i was only able to buy maybe 5 items, some items were literally priced at 4 million gold and you only get less than a hundred gold at even the later fights? not well planned.
-enemy grouping need to be more diverse, i will explain a combat flaw shortly
-considering other problems you need to spend less time on your expansive maps because hte lack of enjoyably and lack of tactical ability makes the expansive map boring, it un challenging it was a walk through
- need to add probability of misses and blocks to add probability and challenge to fights
- need weapon and armor investments to be able to buy and choose not just advance up a set path of weapons

overall flaws of these cons:
i was able to win easily by simply investing ALL exp into attack/strength at first then adding some to the warriors spirit. i was able to win every single fight after the first 10 minutes by using the warriors skill to attack all enemies and kill and end each battle with one strike, then when warrior was out of mana i would use a potion and then end the fight with mages "attack all" spell taking only 1 hit out of every 30 or so fights near the end of the game.

my advice, spend less time on your maps and giving each area its own little description and more time into customization and mechanics
i literally stopped paying attention to all the little extras you did, and stopped looking for secret items less than halfway through after i was able to exploit your mechanical errors making much of the effort you did a waste and thats unfortunate
look forward to future submissions

Pros: engaging battle system, easy to understand experience system, character variety, monster variety.

Cons: dull dialogue, unoriginal plot, very simple and uninteresting ending, inexistent music variety, inexistent voice variety, impossibility to use items outside battles, impossibility to switch items between characters, impossibility to see item bonuses, items at the shop get extremely expensive way too fast.

It is very repetitive, although I can tolerate that. Some level grinding is to be expected in an RPG. The music doesn't help, though; it is fine at first, but I quickly found myself wanting something new, or at least a mute button so I could put on my own music.
I'm not sure whether I like the high encounter rate, because while it leads to lots of money and XP, it quickly gets very tiring and frustrating while trying to explore.
There is also no real challenge, which makes it not very satisfying to progress.

The art wasn't bad, although it wasn't anything special either. The scenery during battle and the dialogue scenes is nice, but it never changes, so it quickly becomes less interesting. The walk-around map desperately needs some variety, especially since the description given about it changes. It would help break up the repetition, as well as make navigation easier and the game overall more visually appealing. I will say that the sprite variation in the enemies was a nice touch, but it ultimately did little to reduce the repetition.
Also, having some sort of label for the enemies might be nice, but that is ultimately a nitpick.

The price for gear upgrades started out reasonable, but as I progressed they got insanely high. These prices became so outrageous that I would have had to spend hours more just grinding for gold to get them, and it isn't worth it at all.
The found items do not always have helpful descriptions, so it is not always clear exactly what they do, and this makes it hard to make good decisions on who to give them to. It also bothered me that I could not compare and choose what to equip of the items you pick up beyond the initial "who should get it" dialogue box. Another feature I found I wanted was a way to heal/use items outside of battle. Perhaps an inventory of some sort could help.

From a story perspective, this game is lacking, especially for an RPG. The dialogue is odd and not quite believable, as well as anvilicious at times. The ending was highly anticlimactic, which is especially problematic because the game needs a satisfying ending to make the longer play time worth it. This could maybe be done by having a boss of some sort; not necessarily the demon because it is established he does not fight his own battles, but maybe a powerful right-hand minion or something. Just give us something... the current ending is really abrupt and kind of disappointing. The player spends a lot of time to get to the end, so you need to make it worth their while.
The plot itself isn't anything to write home about, pretty standard "evil entity is doing evil thing, go slay the evil entity" scenario. This isn't a major problem, but finding some way to make this game more unique wouldn't hurt.
There are also typos, and they make it harder to immerse myself into the game.

All in all, this game needs a lot of polishing. Despite all the flaws, I didn't find it a terrible experience, but it wasn't a good one either. Put some more work into it, and it may become a solid RPG.

I enjoyed playing your game and here are my comments.

Good:
-The battle system is good
-The story(I feel that it's connected with previous games but I can't find the specific connections)
-The growth system is simple yet perfect

Bad:
-Need more varieties in your sound
-No save button(It's a long game so I was expecting a manual save)

Still enjoyed it by the way. Looking forward for more.
