Reviews for "JUGGERNAUT: Awakening"

A better control system would be nice. Using the mouse and arrow keys alone in this would be much simpler and effective. I don't think there was much wrong with the gameplay at all, but a little bit more guidance would help. And yes, the monsters are still too difficult. It's nice to start out with three characters in an RPG, but when you're constantly up against 2-3 monsters that take 4 hits each, the game becomes tedious.

TheEnkian responds:

Using the mouse was something that was suggested by the programmer way back and to be honest, I wish I'd listened. It would have been a good call.

Seems like the game has a lot of potential, but there are a few things that are lacking. There are no weapons or armor in the smith shop, only elements. This should have probably been called 'magic' shop. There is no class balance (magic /melee/ healer) even though everyone has different elements and slightly different stats, everyone is a hybrid class melee/magic type and the difference in elements seems to be slim to none. Maybe put in the ability for one of the characters to immobilize the enemies during multiple encounters, and maybe some enemies could be immune to certain elements, or even heal them if you choose the wrong one.

Some people complain about game balance, but it's a bit tolerable if:
- you don't wander out too far from town so you can keep resting.
- the game would have the ability to move MUCH faster. Put in a 1-10 speed control for combat, up to maybe 10 times faster. There's no reason why it needs to move that SLOW. Getting a miss during combat adds to this frustration, when the game moves this slow. This would also help with the frustration of taking too long to level, as some people have stated.

TheEnkian responds:

I thought Smith would be more general than Weapon Store, although it might have been better calling it something like "Accessory Store" or "Equipment Store" because it doesn't sell weapons in this game.

ok, a lot of the points have been covered, but i would like to go over a few of them again.

1. it took most of the game to get 1 level. that is way too slow.

2. mana to spell ratio. i cast one spell, and i am done for the most part, i can not cast another till i recover.

3. speed of gameplay. i liked the retro look and feel but the game was just too slow overall.

4. what is the point of the smith/shop? it would take a LOT to get get credits needed to buy anything! also the buy/sell prices are too far apart.

5. equipment (or the lack there of) swords, wands, fist weapons, armor, etc.... that is needed to really breath life into an RPG like this. you can make equipment that complements their element (example, fist weapons that give plus 20% to fire based attacks and deal 20% in fire damage)

6. the flee system. i liked how easy it was to get away as needed, however, as an added challenge, do not make fleeing automatic (or if you flee you take a penalty)

the game plays ok, not great. i am looking forward to seeing what happens in seven years.

I am unable to load my latest save. I can load my first save though. This game has potential but there are too many issues, which were already pointed out by the others.

TheEnkian responds:

I'm not sure what the cause for that is to be honest, sorry. We've got a few reports of save files not being properly loadable.

Neat! Though, at first, I had no idea how much EP my ability/element would consume. It seems that every ability/element takes up 16 EP per use. I'd also like to see, in the options menu, key-binding. I'm not sure why, but the "S" and "A" keys feel funny to me. Anyways, I can't wait for the sequel. Keep up the good work!

TheEnkian responds:

Thanks very much! Yeah, we've added mouse controls this time around as well as having a number of keyboard commands, it'll be a lot easier to handle the new menu system and battles this time around.

It won't be long now until we're finished, we only really have to do a lot of clean up stuff and get the stats properly balanced and we'll be done. It'll be out sometime this summer if all is well :D
