Reviews for "Internet Avenger"

I really enjoyed the game, it was clever, humorous and not too difficult. I'm sorry other users don't understand what a game jam is.

wow got so many points beating crap

too repetivve. the money doesnt seem to do anything. and its not challenging at all.
just annoying when u make a careless mistake and start right at the begining again.

take time on it all i can say

I skimmed the first few comments and what I found was either complete trashing or the usual lack of explaination. I didn't expect much else. I know this is a joke game, as made clear by Spleenfat, but I'm going to try and make suggestions in case you decide to do anything in the future. I'll point out the bad stuff and then say what I liked.

First; the enemies were repetative. They could use more varied functions. Example; give enemies attacks similar to the boss before them. That way the bosses seem more like bosses and the minor enemies seem more.... well, minor, yet still the kind of enemies that their bosses would have. Or, in this case, copying over the abilities of the previous computer company you destroyed. Example, the N boss bounces. Have the enemies in the next level bounce on their platforms. Also, every enemy was above me, and that made it too easy to destroy them. If some of the enemies were below me when I'm jumping to their platform, I would have to shoot as I land.

Second; The music never changed. It was the same song through the whole game. Not even the boss music was different at the end of each level. Making two songs one for levels and one for bosses would have been better. Making one song for each level both the platforms and bosses would have been way better. Idealy, a game has a different song for each stage of the game, both levels and bosses separate. If you really wanted to make it unique, you could take the level music and make a hyped-up version of it for the boss music.

Third; you appear to have boasted how fast you made this game. No. No... dude.... just no. A game isn't about how fast you make it, it's about how much detail you put into it. I don't know anything about making games myself, but I do know that the best games take a very long time to make. That means you have to put more concentrated effort into the game over a longer period of time. I'm not saying pile down your game with tons of unnecessary crap that slows down the gameplay for people who don't have the latest big computer, just more detail where it counts to the player.

Fourth; None of the enemies or bosses had eyes. The "hero", or in this case the villain, was the only thing with an eye. And he even changed his appearance thoughout the course of the game. But everything was jut a blind drone. And finally, no need to make a new paragraph for this one; no powerups. Powerups could have changed based on the time that e was in.

At last, what I liked about the game. It was humorous, a little, but limited in its ability to be original. You can make these jokes, but realise you're limiting yourself to a very small number of actual jokes. I'm saying this because Spleenfat said the bluescreen joke wasn't funny. Who the hell said you can't use these jokes? Nobody died and made these idiots mayor of what's funny and what's not. Make your jokes, but pay attention to whether or not you're limiting the number of jokes you're able to make about one subject. I also liked how you rendered the levels to resemble each computer company. Didn't matter that it wasn't great animation. Doesn't have to be. Honestly, I think games are better when they're simpler and faster. Minecraft lags and crashes all the time which amazes be because it's a game about blocks and large pixels.

Overall, it had potential. But you don't make people like your game by how quickly you make it. It's how well you make it.

NoLanLabs responds:

I wouldn't call it a boast, more like a heads-up that it's part of an event that over a thousand other people participated in.

This is a very quality review though. Thank you.
