Reviews for "spaceship"

A very solid space shooter, reminiscent of old skool arcade games. This is an addictive work of art. Bravo!

Syruplord responds:

I'm glad to hear you got that vibe from it! I really have to give props to the artist and musician, they totally nailed the 8-bit old school feel for everything you see and hear in the game, which is just what we were going for. Thanks for playing :)

this game is utterly insane, exactly how it should be! I love the variety and creativity in the enemies, and the artstyle is how I feel 80's arcade games would look like with current tech, mostly simple but still very attractive to look at. The only complaint I have is that it gave me too many situations where I HAD to take damage, and although this is compensated for with a large health meter, and infinite lives, I takes away from the thrill of dodging things, if you know you have to get hit anyway. but really, I liked this game alot, and hope to see more games like this

Syruplord responds:

Thanks for playing! It was a lot of fun for me to design the enemies and bosses, so it's good to hear they gave you a nice sense of variety. Props again to the pixel artist, totally nailed the aesthetic we were going for.

Good feedback on the difficulty level though. I think I may have overdone it just a little bit in some sections (i.e. level #3), which isn't really "difficulty" it's just unavoidable damage. I think in my game, dodging turned more like a side effect to my design choices, rather than the intended goal. if I developed another scrolling shooter, I would be a lot more conscious of pacing and difficulty, and really emphasize elements of dodging as core gameplay. Perhaps enemies with more predictable firing patterns would have been a better way to emphasize that.

Glad you had fun playing, and thanks for the review :)

A nice game although I do have some suggestions:
1. Nerf or remove the 'w' attacks, They are to powerful (attack1 with 'w' kills anything almost instantly and attack 3 with 'w' crashes the game cuase it spawns to many drone guys to fast)
2. make a way to get rid of drones summoned by the 'w' key (I had like 500 and they killed stuff before it even got on the screen)

Other than those things its not that bad of a game. Good work =D

Syruplord responds:

aw snap! You discovered a debug feature I forgot to remove! Thanks for pointing that out. As far as the drones, when you summon them with the A key, they disappear automatically when you switch weapons. I guess my code didn't account for having 500 at a time. Good catch

its really fun and i think it needs almoast zero improvements good game

Syruplord responds:

thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed playing :)

Not the worst spaceship game I've played, but weapons should be more powerful. It's essentially how long can you dodge bullets and ships...

Syruplord responds:

I drew my original inspiration partially from those crazy bullet hell games, like Ikaruga or Touhou, so I did want to have some bullet dodging elements in the game. In many scrolling shooters it's possible to get past sections just by dodging and staying alive, yes?

I do see your point though and I could improve the action and make the weapons really feel a NEED to be used. Like in old school Galaga, you can't get past a section unless you defeat all the enemies in the screen. There's no way to play like a pacifist there
