Reviews for "Snowdrift"

I played this game till day 20. I finally got fed up and stopped playing after the 3rd time the game froze on me. Up until that point it was an interesting game, a bit random but a time killer non the less. Good sound effects paired with pop up images, nothing amazing but well done.
Please fix this bug I wanted to finish the game.

Placeable responds:

Hit up Continue and carry on your game should be enough to fix it. It will load the game from your last played Day.

I keep on dying on day 2, as I can't find any water. Or, I mean, I've found two large bodies of water, but don't seem to be able to drink from them or refill my bottle. Either I'm doing something wrong, or the pond you are supposed to use is WAY to well hidden.

And as I keep dying, I've found a bug. The first time is always fine, but after returning to the title screen and pressing "New game" again, the game do not start. I get the directions on how to play the game, but then, instead of the tree and the backstory, I just get the tree and Sam standing in the bottom right corner. If I press X, I'm shown an empty inventory.
If I reload the page the problem is solved, untill I die and start a new game again.

I like the atmosphere of the game, though. Hard to say much more than that with such a limited experience of gameplay.

Placeable responds:

Hey!

The pond of water is located really close to your house. If you go to the area left of your house and head straight up north, to the right upper corner of the map, there is a pond of water.

Thanks for the review I'll look into that glitch.

God damn i am getting tired to say this, do not use z and x as main buttons!!!!! They are very far apart from each other on some european keyboards, and the game is not fun anymore but a pain to play! Apart from that, cool stuff.

I think that you had some good ideas in mind, but, this didn't work out too well.
Here's a list of things that you should improve on.
Also, I don't wanna say this game is horrible, but it's just not as good as it could be. I don't want you to think I'm saying, "OMG THIS GAME SUCKS LOLOLOLOL"

1. ADD A PAUSE BUTTON.
Honestly, you can't really stop to, say, see reviews or read the description.

2. Tutorial
The beginning tutorial was wayyy.... toooo... loooooonnnnnnnggggg!
I think you should make it gradual, such as, say, you walk up to the lumberjack station and a popup says, "Oh, hey, you need wood for your fireplace! Or you'r gonna die a painful death!"
Rather than, at the beginning of the game, just read, read, read, think, "When will I be able to play the game, anyway?" etc.

3. Repetition
Seriously, you just kill a rabbit, fill your water bottle, chop some wood, and sleep. Over and over. Dodn't even bother to keep going for very many days. Just... boring.

4. Scares
The scares were either inconsistent, not scary, or unoriginal. If you wanted a horror game, making it a survival top-down view with limited elements is not the way to do it. Ended up feeling like nothing was gonna happen, an when it did, I wasn't like, "OMG!! THIS IS SUCH A SCARY GAME!! D:" It was more like, "Oh, look, a screamer face. Sooooo scaaarryyyyyy!! :/ "

4. Bugs
I didn't have any bugs during the 5 days I played, but I saw several in the mixed reviews. You should (Obviously) fix them.

If you read this, thanks! If you make a sequel, please take into consideration what you could improve.
Also, as I said, I only played about 5 days in until I killed myself so I could read the reviews. (Due to the lack of a pause button.) So I don't know what the ending is!

Graphics were 3.5/5, mostly due to the fact that it's easy to get lost in the woods unless you draw a map, and it's sometimes hard to tell where you can screen transition and what's a dead end. Flashing "You can go here" arrows would have been a nice touch, I know it can be immersion breaking, but I'd rather see something that reminds me I'm playing a game than running into walls constantly.

Sound I give a 3/5, no music. =( What sound effects were there did make a good horror experience. A soft, slow piano tune would have been much creepier than silence.

Story/atmosphere is 4/5, the jump scares are a bit childish, but everything else was pretty good. Not the most original, but this take on "darkness devouring the world" is refreshing.

Control/gameplay is a 1/5. No mouse input, and Z/X are awkward and clunky at best. You have a time based game where you have to use arrow keys and two of the least used one on a keyboard to do every single action. At least give the mouse to menus next time.
The whole psychological element was pretty cool, but the survival part was repetitive and got in the way. It would have been better if Sam either had an inner monologue, or if he had a water well, and a trap that he had to reset every day near his house, maybe an apple tree or something, just to remove the survival aspect and give him something to do in the forest, exploration to find the unknown is more tense than exploration to prevent game over.
