Reviews for "Relic"

Not a bad game. However, this game needs an option in some cases to flee from combat. On the final level, I realized that I needed to level up my party more, but was unable to leave without being slaughtered by crystal knights. This results in a permanent "game over" unless you start the game from the beginning all over again.

Hyptosis responds:

You could just teleport to town.

The art and battle system are nice but it really felt like there was a lot more that could have been done. It was enjoyable and I'd like to see more, but there is a few things I would to suggest.

1. More Story: This is an RPG. Story should be a big focus, yet there isn't much here. The world, while beautifully created, just doesn't feel complete with only a short intro to flesh things out. Even the town, with nothing to see or do, felt like it was just a glorified potion shop. Bring more life to the world you created through the game. It doesn't have to be some long, sweeping epic, just beef up the plot and dialog a bit. I know some people care about story, so just allow skipping it ala the intro.

2. Let Us Know The Characters: While the designs are good, I'd like to know more about the characters. All we really get the short intro and a 2 paragraph backstory of each character. Give us a reason to care about these characters.

3. Length And Difficulty: Everything went by so fast I thought the last area was the true "beginning" of the game as the difficulty finally cranked up a bit. Imagine my disappointment to find it was indeed the last area. Every battle was easy to the point of being boring, so the short nature of the game was more apparent. A challenge mode at the very least would be a welcome addition if you want to keep the game more accessible.

4. Character Customization?: While it was nice to customize attributes, it's implemented oddly. Some characters get penalties on different attributes. This is fine, but I don't recall this being explained. I'm sure most people ended up having Coal as a tank, but with his skills I wanted him more as a battlemage. Needless to say, I was disappointed with his magic customization penalty. Having that explained would have nipped this in the bud.

5. Equipment Usage: I liked how certain weapons had elemental attributes to them. However, it felt really unnecessary here. The enemies are easy enough to take out or don't have weaknesses. This really made bashing through the enemies at the end very monotonous (high hp + no weakness + enemy not attacking bug = mindnumbing boredom). Also, allowing in-battle weapon swapping would be a very nice touch. On the note of equipment, I do like how you get loot through exploring and not through shops.

All in all, it's a good base to a game and fundamentally sound, but there isn't much to keep a players interest. You got the mechanics down pretty well and the art/design is very good. Now try your hand at storytelling and you could really have something here.

Also, there seems to be a bug in the last area. Every fight in the area with The Bard, only the Sackmen attack.

GO and fix that freezing thing cause my menu also froze so I couldnt save and that's pretty annoying

Hyptosis responds:

What was the last thing you did before it froze?

I liked the game, I didn't like the save feature not working. and I had a problem with the menu malfunctioning. the main character froze, I pressed q like suggested then I could never access the menu again to save or anything

Hyptosis responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to fix the error.

Having some problem with the save feature. I use the runed-circle to save as instructed in-game. Then I go to load later the same day and the load button produces no result.

Hyptosis responds:

Sounds like your cooky got cleared/didn't save. It just saves to a cookie.
