This was, as Kirb said, a commision. It was not meant simply to entertain us, and shouldn't be judged as such. Presumably, since the wife commissioned kirb and not someone else, one or both of the couple are familiar with, and likely fans of, Kirb's work. Putting myself in the husband's shoes: This is an animation commissioned for me by my wife, set to a song I personally wrote, likely for her. It sends a message of love, and (while it is a bit different from Kirb's usual) the animation fits the song and that message. The animation seems to accomplish what it was intended for, and that's really all the praise it needs.
