Reviews for "TOME Episode 02"

Gamecrazed is super cool

Well, this is nothing special. I would give criticism to prove why but you're known for not listening to others so I'll save my time. Anyways, is gamemaster some sorta knockoff of Raven from Teen Titans?

Alrighty, episode 2! I'll start by saying, I didn't quite enjoy this episode as much as the first one. Now, don't get me wrong - the episode on it's own is good. But this episode generally felt more like a filler episode, and since this is the 2nd episode, it's a bit too soon for that.

I felt there wasn't really anything all that important that happened in this episode, unless I've missed something. I know the Tournament place and the "drain edge" sword will obviously come into play at a later time but other than that, I haven't learned anything important about the main story. Aside from the fact that gamecrazed has the power to fix things? And I already knew the forbidden power could hurt people IRL from the first episode.

I'll start with the things I didn't like as much - first off, there was no Alpha already? I thought he was supposed to be the main guy? If it wasn't for the opening scene, the forbidden power wouldn't even have been mentioned at all and it would have seemed to been put on the backshelf already.

Now the next points might come across as nit-picking, but I personally think you've missed some opportunities in terms of how they entered the building. And this goes back to a complaint I had about the first episode - it's kinda hard to tell that this is a show about people playing a videogame at times. Usually in a game like this, if there's a place you're not supposed to go, it would be sealed off by an invisible wall, not some silly ribbons saying "keep out". I just think it would've been alot more interesting if the characters found a way inside through a glitch - let's say, they found a small opening in the textures and walk under the floor and jump inside the building from under the floor - or something along those lines, that would've made it feel more like a game and more "adventurous" to me.

Also, these game developers seem a bit eccentric as they apparantly need to work on the game while being in the game itself. And why would the developer get into trouble for having players trespass? Is there any penalty for the players if they do? And if it's really that big an issue why didn't they give the developer a way to port the players out of the building? And what WAS gamecrazed doing there in the first place? We didn't really get to know that at the end of the episode, it just seemed kinda forgotten about.

I'm sorry if I'm rambling, but I've played WoW for many years and still am - so it's kinda hard for me to overlook some of these "nitpicks" - maybe it's not all that fair to compare this to an actual game, but these kind of rules generally apply to most MMOrpgs and I think I can consider TOME one as well?

However, I may have come off a bit negative there - not intentionally, sorry if it seemed that way - but there were also alot of things I did like about this. Though I'll try to keep it short as I'll probably be repeating myself for the most parts.

Again, the animation was good. The music, voiceacting and overall sound design was top notch. The artwork on the mansion was amazing, I loved it. It was a very nice change of scenery from the rather plain/kinda not-so-good-looking purple wasteland.

The fight scenes improved quite alot compared to the first episode, especially the fight between kirbopher and sniperwheel. I liked the camera panning around through the scope of sniperwheel, that looked pretty cool.

Some new characters were introduced, first being sniperwheel. I can already tell I'm going to like this character alot, probably because I'm a biased towards him as I like Jontron - but I can see him being a fun seconddary character.
Then there's the developer "Asterob", I like how he looks like the person he's voiced by. But generally I liked him, he was alright.
The villain was okay - nothing too special, but she served her purpose. I don't really see her returning any time soon but I wouldn't mind it if we saw her pop up again.
Kirbopher was also good in this, he still feels like an actual person playing a videogame, and I like that.
Nylocke however, I'm still iffy about. I don't hate the character but I'm not too keen on him either. I still have the same complaints about him from the first episode. The catchphrase needs to be toned down a bit.

With all that being said, I'm definitely gonna keep watching. I've said this before but despite the nitpicking and the risk of sounding a negative at times, I do enjoy this show! Keep at it and good luck with further installements!
