Reviews for "Dragon Ball Zee"
Ended weak.
It was getting good there for a second, but then you had to go and throw in the sexual humor. That's usually an instant fail in my book because it simply isn't clever or original at all. I understand though, your trying to appeal to the Newgrounds demographic. Just throw in some homo-eroticism and you've got instant 5's and maybe even front page. Which I find quite pitiable.
The artwork was good though. Since the title was Dragon Ball "Zee", I was expecting some gags about Vegeta's "eeee" sound. But I didn't see any.
New dog (authors),same tricks.
Concept: Pretty much the same jokes based on the rinse and repeat fighting style of DBZ we've seen a thousand times over portrayed from these authors own style.
Art: Gonzossm art style is decent I don't really like the amateur-like stylized art direction he's chosen but I know he has potential to perform works outside it. The colors are nice and vibrant just like the original Akira Toriyama classic.
Animation: Well since it's based on an anime that has lots of stand still moments the lack of real animation (full body movements) is understandable and of course adds relativity to the parody.
Humor: Meh, as stated pretty typical DBZ parody.This anime has always had a one trick pony parody style for the longest time. (although the abridged series proved that can change) But the jokes here are too easy and too overdone. You can pretty much find these in a dbz forum back in the 90's-early 2000's. However I did like the way the censorship was humorously used to productively to rack in subscribers.
Sound: Great quality, never had to shift the volume to understand dialogue or tone down an extremely loud sound effect.The voices were cool too since it is a parody after all.
Overall: If your a HUGE fan of these authors and they can just do no wrong, go for it. But all I found was just another rinse and repeat of juvenile jokes based on the common turn offs of DBZ and anime in general.
