Reviews for "Flur"

Very calming, relaxing game. I loved the music and the graphics are simple, beautiful and smooth. My only suggestion would be maybe some sort of visible upgrade to the avatar when she upgrades in status to add more visual appeal to the game. Otherwise, lovely job.

The music is perfect and the game is just as addictive as it is beautiful. I really enjoyed playing this game even though it gets a bit repetitive after playing for twenty or so minutes, but it relaxes and calms the senses so I really don't mind it at all. It gives me a break from all the violence going on so I'm very glad this game was produced.

On the other hand, It would be nice if, as you upgraded, the fairy would change slightly more and maybe the background would change a bit?

All in all it didn't bother me much, and it's a great relaxing game.

The game was addicting and enjoyable to play. The best part is the music and smoothness. The power-ups were very welcoming as it made ranking up much more enjoyable. This game was incredibly addicting, taking at least half an hour of my time.

The worst part of the game was the repetitiveness. Flur never changed no matter how many Spritelings you collected or ranks achieved. The only reward for ranking up was the achievements, an thus left me unsatisfied. The Spritelings were repetitive with the biggest change being that some may hurt you. The groups varied only slightly from each other with the exception of the DNA strand, Pulsar, and Helia; while every other group had simply a few more orbiters. The Spritelings also had incredible speeds whenever Flur sped up and thus caused many deaths. The background never changed and seemed out of place; the Sprites and Flur were bright and fluid while the background was dark, grey, and still. The achievements were also highly repetitive.

Improvements I would make is to make Flur dynamic, with each passing rank Flur actually changing and improving. My suggestion would be to have the Flur in the menu be the final product while the Flur you play as start out as a Spriteling. Flur could then grow wings, then antennae, then have a small body, etc. Ranking up should also have greater rewards such as increased speed, vision, etc. The background also needs to be more dynamic, as seeing the same dreary background really brings down the brightness of the characters, possibly having the background become more colorful and life-filled as Flur improved. The dangerous Spritelings should aslo have been a color that contrasted well with the Green Spritelings, as when the game becomes more crowded it becomes difficult to spot what's orbiting and what's not.

In summary, this game is addictive but suffers from repetiveness. The music and sound effects were enjoyable. However, ranking up was not very rewarding, Spritelings only slightly changed, and the background was out of place.

What you did perfectly is hit the appeal factor in people. This game is relaxing with a touch of simplicity with the music fitting very well by setting the ambiance. It's more of a reflex challenge that gets harder as you go, which is good, but at times I find sharp movements to be unresponsive which kills the game slightly. But, this game is very very basic with no change beyond difficulty. No background really, the overall game just has nothing when the controls are shoddy (occasionally, but mostly on the sharp turns which are most important.) This is where the appeal comes in, with the music being simple and having a gentle centered character, people will call this "beautiful" (I'm not reading beyond my own review) which in combination of relaxation and contrast of a lot of violent games that people like to... not demonize, but view under a veil of negativity. It is nice to play, I will give it that.
TL;DR
Ok, not much to it, improve controls, and music is good. Appeal is huge considering the general audience and mixed views on simple and or non-violent games. Not playing again probably due to lack of changes in levels beyond difficulty.

Addicting

It's an extremely addicting game though it's so simple. A big plus for a dynamic action game without violence. The strange fact is that a game which seems monotonous at the first glance can take away a large fragment of one's free time. There's just something going on on the screen constantly, so the player must be still focused on the gameplay. Another good point are loads of achievements (though they're not very special and can be associated with grind - get fifty something, etc...).
I'm aware of the fact that the game was being made within three weeks. I'm really impressed that such a beautiful thing could be made so fast. However, certain elements could be improved if more time was given. I'd personally love to see the fairy change her appearance (and perhaps, getting permanent power-ups) with every gained level. I think, it would give the player a feeling of increasing in power. It would also make a good visualisation of the player's progress. Especially when the graphic is so original, delicate and simply beautiful.
Still, another problem is a slight thing that made the gameplay frustrating at times (well, I'm not really sure whether it's a bug or not or whether it's caused by Newgrounds more than by the game itself...). Namely, did only I have an impression that when the camera gets further from Flur, everything around begins to move faster? Anyway, this thing often made it impossible to catch such objects as Typhoon. I was just chasing it with maximum speed and it was seeming to move faster or faster (or the fairy was just getting slower). Well, it's not a very nice feeling when you realise, you can't move faster since the cursor is already beyond the flash area and the pretty star is flying away...
Anyway, despite these slight problems, it's still one of the best games, I've played recently (plus, I appreciate the fact, not much time was given to create it). The best proof of this that Flur stole one and half hour of my life - and I forgive her with all my heart :)
