Reviews for "Tails: UC Episode 0.5"

Vey Impressive, Indeed....

I was left in awe after watching this. This could make a lot of animaters jealous because of your talent in animation! Although the progress of this series is slow I will be patient and wait for your next, brilliant, animation. This isn't hard too see, this series is almost inspiring (As a Tails fan). I will be in touch with your work. Keep up the good work!

Sincerely, The Fan

Blank-Mage responds:

It's been slow because I keep having to start over. Trust me, it's better for it. I plan on having this done as soon as a few weeks from now, I just wanted to post something to prove I'm alive. It wasn't very well received, probably because I didn't spell out PRESS SPACEBAR for people. I hope that's it, anyway. The alternative is that I just suck.

And yeah, funny how there are so many Tails fans and no Tails series. Well NO LONGER.

Holy crap dude

How is this not a 4.0 or higher?
The animation was smooth
your physics were nice
and most of all, you don't put a disgrace to sonic's name.
no you dont suck at spriting, you're a beast.

Blank-Mage responds:

I'm actually not that happy with the physics here. I mean, it's SUPER Sonic. If he felt like it, he could punch a hole in the moon, so why isn't he one shotting these pawns? The answer, of course, is that that would be boring as hell. So the problem is that I'm just doing what's easy, and having them thrown wherever I think is convenient. It's not good form, is all. Not very consistent.

But hey, YOU liked it, so maybe I'm over-thinking it.

Really good, man!

I saw the intro as well. This is certainly a unique story similarity to Fate Stay/Night... okay so maybe I don't see complete similarity yet, but I will be expecting it in your episodes to come! Now, if only you had 10,000 reviews and a 4.20... : [

Seriously, one of my favorite anime. There is another anime character that reminds me of Sabre... Clair, from Claymore

Blank-Mage responds:

I didn't know I had more reviews to comment on! Sweet! I feel popular.

And HEY, a Fate/Stay Fan! Glad to hear it, you're going to love this. This little piece is basically like Tohsaka's prologue with Archer; things will start following the series proper once Mecha attempts to kill said fox, just like Lancer attempting to kill Shirou.

I think my score is low because some people didn't know to press space and didn't read the comments. At least I hope so. And I've watched Claymore, it was pretty good. Liked the ending song enough to put on my ipod.

HOLYJESUS.

It's official. You are now an NG legend to me. I hope I'm this good someday... That was some of the smoothest animation I've seen in awhile. This felt very refreshing to watch. It's original, while still keeping a Sonic-styled feel to it. Amazing, 10/10. I still wish I knew better ways to reduce the filesize like this though... You know, without losing sound quality and such.

Blank-Mage responds:

Yeah, file size is always a problem with me. I'm getting better, but chances are episode one will still be scraping the 10MB limit for reasons I won't disclose just yet.

I've noticed that almost everyone who comments remarks on how smooth the animation is, which is interesting; I really wasn't aiming for 'smooth' so much as 'wicked fast'. Makes you wonder what I can achieve when I start TRYING for smooth animation, eh? Ah, this is gonna be AWESOME.

Good stuff!

It better not be a "probably" coming out. With how well you animated just about everything, it should be a "definitely" coming out... that is... if you think you've got enough original content to put it out. But, then again, this is the first piece of work I've seen from you, so we can't really tell yet, can we. I do think you're going in the right direction, though!

Quick pointer. Right before sonic breaks in to the cockpit, you slanted the sonic sprite in a way that was just... too much... I mean, you were doing such a great job with the smoothness and the camera angles, and then that happened. Not saying it was necessarily a bad thing, just was sort of like me screaming "AW, CMON! YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT!"

Can't wait to see your writing and story-telling skills be put to the test! Lemme know when it comes out!...and I just noticed something in your comments. You say "Expect future battles to be much slower." I hope you don't mean the motion speed, because that was just where it should be!!! DON'T YOU DARE MODIFY THAT! Less one-sided? Ok, that sounds better! =P

4/5, 9/10. Keep it going!

Blank-Mage responds:

Thanks for the review, I can see you don't just pass out 9s to anyone. So, adressing your concerns, in way too much detail!

About the slant, yeah, I couldn't think of a good way to express the kind of speed I was after. I tried some aura style fireball type things, but I just couldn't get it to look good. It's something I hope to fix by the time episode 1 comes out. I agree completely, I was just trying to wrap things up.

I'm keeping the frame rate at 30 FPS. When I say slower, it's because obviously Tails (and Mecha) aren't going to fight as fast as Super Sonic. Each has their own style, for example Tails will use mostly aerial combat, and he'll use his mid-air control to his advantage. He's also out of practice, and usually too scared to really go on the offensive.

Mecha is a walking arsenal, and his extreme weight will prevent him from making quick changes in direction, so he'll use long range when he can. He's a machine, so his melee strikes will be very measured and precise.

Essentially, it won't be nearly as fast, but I assure you, it'll be way more detailed than anything you're used to.
