Reviews for "MeaninglessViolence"

LOL

i had more fun wit the commertial xd misshapen balls anyways good job

OMG

I have been waiting for this kind of game!!

A fairly good game

I know the title has the word "meaningless" in it, so I shall not critique you for the lack of plot. I understood very well that it is meant to be a hack and slash game, but the hacking and slashing seemed to fall a bit short on my expectations.

For one, the controls seemed to be a bit unresponsive at times, for example the jump attack only worked every other time I attempted the combo, and even then it was a matter of precise timing to actually hit my target. If perhaps you could make it so the attacks were a little more fluid, that would be extremely helpful.

A second thing that I wished the game had was the ability to combine combos (for instance, holding down the attack button and halfway through the combo pressing the kick button to execute a more powerful kick/stab combination. It felt like I couldn't attack in the ways I wanted to, and giving the player the versatility of that caliber would make the game a lot more interesting.

Now, I am not entirely sure if this last thing is because of me or the game, so please try to take it into account with a grain of salt. I felt as though the upgrades were a little too costly, and that I had to fight through several levels because only one in four enemies would drop any gold at all. Perhaps lower the prices or simply make the drop percentage higher, and the player can make a lot more progress.

Lastly, I did not notice a way to upgrade the character itself, rather than upgrading their weapons, armor, and abilities. A way to permanently increase the HP or MP of the player would be a very nice addition.

Now since I don't want to have this be an all-bad review, I would like to commend the creator for the artwork and musical selection. In the desert (orc enemies?) section I enjoyed the music quite a bit, plus the art was simple yet refined, giving a non-distracting set of eye candy.

Overall, a fun (I spent a good 45 minutes on it) and entertaining game, but does require a few relatively minor tweaks to make it into a great game.

I hope this helps, but if what I said does not make any sense or you disagree, then feel free to send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

IT ok

it needs more though more upgrades weapons armor magic but it is good for now

The title's apt...

I tried to get into this, but I really couldn't. Even by the standards of the beat-em-up genre, there just isn't enough to this game.

As I went through the game, I didn't feel like I was making any progress; just being moved away from arena to arena. I know that the mindlessness is heavily implied by the game's title, but couldn't you at least switch up the enemies more than you did so that I wasn't thinking about that so much? It looked and felt like I was just beating the same guys into the ground over and over, just with a slight increase in the number or health of the guys I had to fight.

There's no strategy or personality to it, either. Your strategy from start to finish is to just hold down the attack button until everything in front of you dies, or until a random block, roll or counter from your enemies forces you to jump or turn around so you can go back to holding down the attack button until the enemies' randomized defense pops up again. I know that you provide upgrades, but they should just be a bonus that allows you to do new things, not your only chance of surviving random counterattacks from your enemies because you simply can't kill them before they kill you otherwise. Absolutely none of this is helped along by the stiff controls (especially during jumps) that don't allow you to move around fluidly, or the incredibly short range of attack you have that both mean you're constantly getting hit.

You meant well with this game, but you need to overhaul the engine and make it feel a lot less generic. It's a little TOO meaningless and bland as it is now.
