Reviews for "Dodgin Beats: Sonic"

NIIICe

this was pretty neat
the sprites were good
was a tough game and i love the way it went to the music too
you really needed that shield
could have had some rings though would've been cool
looking forward to seeing more of your work

JordanKinsley responds:

Thanks I thought the idea was neat too
The sprites were ripped straight from the games, we didn't use any custom sprites, or take any from websites, so thanks!
I guess it was tough for beginners, most songs I could breeze through in 1 or 2 tries, then again I made them.
I figured the shield feature would be a nice feature :)
Rings were an idea presented by a few people, but it might make the level look messy if I throw them in there..
I will post more don't worry :) I just want to work on a different style next time, maybe a platformer or rpg.

Good

Yea this is a good game. I always like 8-bit style games the graphics are perfect for that and the music is good too.
suggestions:
adding more songs
also watch for holes in your songs, because I was able to get through half the songs with a shield and sitting in the upper left corner. Idk how the units are spawning but if they spawn to the notes specifically you might want to add a boundary.
Only reason Im writing a review becasue it looks like you actually read them

JordanKinsley responds:

Indeed I do read my reviews. Problem with syncing more songs is that the file size becomes insanely large and after putting in so many songs it takes a long time to test each export. As far as the holes in the songs the notes are randomly generated, so the location that the note pops out is unpredictable, sometimes u can stay up in a corner and be perfectly fine, but that is less than likely to happen. Thanks you for reviewing.

Pretty good

Altogether everything was well put together. I've played all the previous ones however, and this one felt a little lacking compared to all the other ones. There was also a sense of inconsistency on the difficulties of the levels. The harder levels seem to be easier than the levels that were suppose to be less difficult. Part of that could be contributed to the songs, since some of the harder songs don't seem to have as much change in beat than some of the easier songs. And some of the harder stages don't have as many things flying from all direction compared to some of the easier levels.

Overall everything was put together well, but there were some inconsistencies with the actual mechanics/difficulties of each level.

JordanKinsley responds:

Good review, I will admit you have a good point. Deciding what to specify as difficulty should be is really a matter of opinion. I will admit that you have a good point though. Thanks for reviewing :)

Amazing

This is my second review in about 8 years of coming to this site, so I hope that says something about how special this game is. Okay, honestly, it is probably due to the nostalgia points and love I have for the o.g. sonic stuff. I like the difficulty and the controls. Straight in the veins, no bs dodging game. The music selection is top notch. Though it seems simple, the game is balanced well enough that, with some practice and memorization of songs and patterns, the extreme difficulty is able to be completed.
**small bugs to note:
when you start up the extreme level, the display shows "chemical something, moderate". Also, what is the reasoning behind putting the hardest level in between the moderate ones?

overall, great game... simple and to the point. there is absolutely no replay value, once you beat a song you're pretty much done with it. i'm not sure what you could do to fix that, perhaps achievements or powerups (these would be weird)

JordanKinsley responds:

Thank you for such a wonderful review. It's helpful and to the point. The reason the extreme level is smack dab in the middle is because we predestined the order of the songs, and later on we never really seem interested in changing it around, but that is good to note.

The idea of creating replay value does seem hard, but it could be done!! I will see what I can do next time I create another dodgin beats. Thanks again for your review!

its really cool

seeing chemical plant made my day, that is my one of my favorite sonic songs

JordanKinsley responds:

The only song I didn't Sync was chemical plant, I have to admit, when he showed me that he synced that song, I almost rolled out of my chair laughing.
