Reviews for "LARRY: Doug-Out"

Frustrating to the Nth degree

I like the concept of the game. I also agree wiuth the notion that the game was designed to be difficult and in fact I folund myself continuing to play in order to get better. However, the game hits a wall around the 8th day or so where I had to begin choosing between saving for my weapon upgrade and refilling my kegs. Once you buy the $500 stick it is nearly impossible to make up the money to invest in beer quality or more kegs because the speed of the fill bar and the speed of doug are related to the number of days as opposed to the quality of the beer.

My recommendation would be to link the fill speed, and maybe Doug's speed, to the beer quality. It would also be helpful to have some sort of speed upgrade for McSweeney who is infuriatingly slow which makes it nearly impossible to keep up with Doug. Also, it would be nice to be able to serve the #2 customer if you had enough beer for their container but not for the #1 customer.

Overall a good submission but the extreme frustration aspect kept it from getting a better rating.

ERROR!!!!

If Doug shows up right after a customer sets his stein down on the bar, McSweeney wont do s***, even after you beat the hell out of Doug. The game wasted an entire day because of that. 3/10

duuude what the..?!

this game is trash.
the delay between the click-action is so long that Doug driks all the ale before i hit him even once.

The speed in the serving bar by the day 15 is so fast that i lose money over and over.

If you play this game you'll problably end un breaking your keyboard or your screen (or something you can break that is near you)

2/5 - 3/10

fun ends on day 5

the game stops being enjoyable around day 5. Afterwards, it's just annoying.

I have to hand it to you on one point

I've never harbored a more seething rage for a character in a game than I have for Doug. Every time the bastard runs with that half-a-retard giggle into my stock room just as I begin pouring a new barrel of beer I want to reach into my monitor and squeeze the life out of his beer swilling body.

The game finds itself exploring an interesting aspect of game design. It's supposed to be frustrating, Doug is meant to be hard to kill and you're supposed to be too slow to reliably get him. In that aspect I can't really knock you. You accomplished exactly what you meant to. At the same time, what it succeeds at doing is incredibly annoying.

It's a hard balance to hit, the type of gameplay that's tough, but encourages you to play and get better. I think the problem is that it feels like no matter what you do you don't have enough control over what happens. If you're lucky your barrels will be close together and you can have a degree of success in basing that dunk bastard's head in, but when they're spread out you're fucked, even in the earlier levels. The sluggishness of the gameplay along with the randomness makes is discouraging to play at length.
