Reviews for "Joe's Minor Adventure"

Smooth and Enterteining!

This game is really addicting, funny and enjoyable. It is not just that simple games, where you play for one minute and close the page, you can do a lot of things, with power-ups, avoiding, speedy, watch short and nice storyboard and do other things.
-------------------------
NOW LET'S GO TO THE TOPICS:
-------------------------
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|||||||||||||||||

-//NAME//-
The name from Joe's Minor Adventure, looks simple, but really match in some way with this action game, as an adventure with the protagonist being the minor worker Joe. And it would be according with the storyboard lookings through the draings -- Joe's Minor Action, but this looks weird, even if the genre is action. I think you really did a nice picking of title here.

-//CONCEPT//-
The concept of the game is the most interesting, as this have nice observations from the west time. Like, the old traintrack bridges, the galloons, the stations with the mailbox, the wooden tracks, the mine cars, the gold plunders, the tunnels inside mountains and such, the seas under the bridges and a lot of other things. The use from power-ups was another interesting point of this game, where is not just that games from avoid trains changing the tracks or just simply avoiding rocks or stones, you have the gift from use three different kinds of power-ups and other thing that turns this more competitive, is that you have a limit time for use them, as you can never have them forever, this is much more nice. The trains design was another thing that took my observation as they looks really cool.

-//PROGRAMMING//-
The programming from this game was my favourite, I can see that you used a lot of variables, as the power-ups, poissons, trains, rocks, shocking construction signal, and other kinds of obstacles randomizing through your way, because if didn't had these random attachments, you already would know what do, and everyone could get a top #1 place in the leaderboard or scoreboard, this was a really nice point, other thing I liked was the point system where you get althrough from what you did while playing the game. The variables were pretty good, the commands also where, leaving the jumping control for the space bar, and the power-ups with they stroke listeners from "A", "S" and "D" keys, and placing "ESC" key for quit as the computer games we know and the "M" key for mute sounds, audio or music. The controls were very smooth, and leave for you and addicting view of the game and also you enjoy it by playing through hours, because you can be the top #1 from the game, you have a lot of curiosity for know where you will be, also, I liked how the difficulty from the game grow up, because when you hit the stage train station, the number of obstacles and trains double, and while you're going through the tunnel or cave, whatever, is more more hard. This game was really fun, addicting, enjoyable, creativy, good, smooth, smooth controls, action-packed, competitive, interesting, nice and whatever good things have to say. You really should be proud from this game. I really really liked it.

-//SOUNDTRACK//-
The soundtrack was really fun for this game, from the menu looks really "peaceful" kind to we read the boards, options, settings, instructions and such, and not that strong musics were give us some kind of hate and already jump for the gameplay. From the gameplay, does your game looks like a really old west action-adventure game and addicting. Your game doesn't have any FX or special sounds, or additional sound attachment, but if you see, just by the main audio, it looks really cool and give you fun of playing it. I think this was a really good and well choosen option of soundtrack. Countech Roll is really cool!!

-//OVERALL//-
As I said a lot of times, the game was addicting, smooth keyboard actions, enterteining, competitive because the leader board you have in the end, the skill you need to have to avoid the trains or any obstacles through your way, and the ability from use power-ups and constructed variables. Nice work!!

Hm, I have the 4th highest score of all time. :P I'm sure that someone will beat it here soon, but it was really my fault that I died where I did. I could have easily had the highest score, but I sadly don't have time to come back and play it.

~ Animation ~

The animation was very smooth all around. I didn't detect and hit detection errors at all and when I tested it through about 5 times I only died when I should have died and never by a glitch. Great job programming this piece.

~ Graphics ~

Very clean graphics all around. I was impressed on how well they were done. So great job to the person who drew the graphics here. Also, the menus were organized and done rather well. It really looked good.

~ Story/Content ~

It was a good idea for a game and you did a good job producing it. It was really easy to play and got progressively harder as it went. This would be a good game for medals in my opinion.

One thing that I might suggest doing is making your power-ups slowly regenerate or have specific dangerous locations where someone could get an upgrade for the power-ups to come back.

Another way you could have approached this game would be by having it separated in levels and being able to spend money in between at a shop. Perhaps buying lives, upgrades for the power-ups, etc...

~ Audio ~

The music was quite good, but if my memory serves me right there wasn't any sound effects. Perhaps the use of sound effects would have been beneficial in this submission.

~ Overall ~

A good game with potential to be better.

We send Tom 3 pm's about trying to get medals with no reply so sadly that didn't happen. I would have liked the game to have medals as well.

I did have sound effects in earlier builds but they became too annoying to hear as the game went on. Like for example, the train whistle, fine and dandy at the beginning, but when there's like 3+ trains coming, it becomes really hard on ears. Kinda same stories with other sound effects so I decided to leave them all out and to let the good music stand out.

You got some good ideas. I'll consider them if we make a sequel. Thanks for your review :).

A bit hard...

But not as hard as some people make them out to be.

The art in this just fit with the music in the background.

No sound effects but I don't think the game needs sound effects for the most part. Maybe for jumping, landing, and trains passing by but that is it.

I didn't have any trouble with hit detection so on that front its fine. I noticed that you can actually avoid some obstacles and even trains if you hit it early. I also noticed that he is sort of off the track when you do switch if you hit it too early.

Some obstacles end up right in the way of the track switchers. Kind of unfair but adds to the difficulty of the game which I like.

Overall a very fun and a bit story driven game. I want to get to the end but it is so hard!

Thanks for the review.

ps. your music rocks :)

Nice!

I liked the game concept, is very nice, the game works so nice, you had a nice idea and made a nice game!!

The graphics are awesome, they're not horrible, like lots and lots of games here in NG... you made a nice animation too, Joe is very well animated and drawed...

I liked the music, it's kind of a groovy bass, it is the perfect backgrounds music for this game.
The game itself is pretty easy, just to avoid some things in the way, watching to be always in the correct trail, this makes the game quite challenging, but is still funny...

I just think that the game could even be frontpaged, it's so nice and cool to play, you guys made a really good game, congratulatons!!

Glad you liked the game. You think it's pretty easy? :) I'm still waiting for people to break the 30k score on the highscores. There's a challenge for you, or anyone else reading :).
Thanks for the review.

I thought this flash was pretty good and I really enjoyed it but the instructions were all weird because all of the connectors looks like something you should avoid but the name was pretty witty.

The art was really good and decent but I think it could be a bit better but the high scores table was pretty good too and it was good to do that. I think the animation was good too like the train coming and the warning for the train coming was all pretty cool plus everything else like that but why was the intro like not animated because it would be pretty cool if you did that.

I think you spent lots of time and effort onto this but it was pretty underrated to me because it looks like you spent a lot of time on this but the power up things was pretty cool too but the story wasn't that good and it is just a generic train chase but is there an end to this game because it's pretty stupid to have a game without an ending to it whatsoever unless there's a free play mode but it was a bit challenging to me.

Overall I think this is a pretty good game that needs a bit more attention on it because it looks like a pretty good game to me and I found it saddening that I didn't see it in the portal when it came out but it's pretty cool and I think you should keep up the good work.

ProfessorFlash responds:

It's a highscore game so there's really no real ending to it. Get as much points as you can. But I felt that adding some sort of a story was still important. It answers the question "why am I doing this" for people. It may seem little silly but people find it important to understand the game like that. It gives reason for playing.
Thanks for your review.
