Reviews for "Escape!"

Simply Beautiful

Smurt! This is an amazing piece. I've enjoyed listening to your music, and this is no exception. I like the dark beginning. The bell is well placed into the song, and the fading in-and-out of the flutes and the scaling flutes towards the end are brilliant.

I'm a big fan of the use of lots of strings, too. You used them very well!

Download count +1 for you, as well as a 5 for the votes. Keep 'em coming, Smurt! :D

SuperTonic64 responds:

Thanks Qber! ^_^ (Yay @ +1)

I wanted something dark...mysterious...something that signaled desperation, and in the end, freedom. :D I thought that the flute scales would bring out a running feeling. (IF that makes sense. XD)

Strings, horns, oboes, and harps are my favorite instruments, along with piano, of course! ;)

Qber is an awesome composer/pianist/mod/friend that I look up to! ^_^ Everybody who's anybody should check out his newest/so-incredibly-awesome techno song "Galatropolis" in the techno section! You definetly won't be disappointed! ^_^

Thanks Qber! :)

wonderful

I love it
towards the end, you should try to do something
to make those hitting chords more sforzando
and accented.
the reverb level, i think, is just fine
and the dissonance at :15 sound just as fine.
(im referring to the A and Eb/D#, w/e key ur in
lol).
I didnt like the snare and the cymbal soundfonts,
tho thats not ur fault haha and the 3:36 timpani
roll (i think) sounded kinda wierd...
As for the 'escape' feeling, i didn't really get
it to be honest, im sorry.
But as for the prison feel, DEFINITELY.
I kinda saw like a guy chained by both legs
and hands behind the back walking to his cell.
obviously the prisoner wouldnt be a very evil
person, maybe a revolutionist? lol i sound
pretty wierd trying to portray wut i see...

Once again, sweet song
great concept
and I'm so glad you're back to NG :)

I'll be able to do more with the song once I get Reason 3 or Garritain's Personal Orchestra. (*sigh* Still saving.) Once I get that program, I'll be able to express the dyamics a little better and make the song more expressive. :D

I'm glad you are telling me your portrayal of the song. It helps me when writing to understand how other people see the music like.

Here is my story behind the song:

In this song, a king wrongfully imprisoned five people after putting them on a mock trial for political reasons. During that trial, the king sentenced the hero's love, Illiana, to death, and then imprisioned him so he could suffer out his days. After Illiana was sentenced to death, they are imprisoned, but the hero takes action and breaks free, saving his cell. Before they make it out of the prison, however, a battle occurs between the king's knights, and the hero and his friends defeat them, weaponless, escaping.

Though you could have never known the full story behind the song, I wanted to bring out those kinds of feelings. :D Everyone is different though, and everyone will percieve this song differently. :D

Sorry for the long response! Thanks for the review! :D

Inspiring

Extremely powerful. You have single handed changed my view of soundfonts, and i'm going soundfont hunting RIGHT now. Listening to your song as a constant remind to why i'm doing it.

Extremely professional, crisp, powerful, and inspiring.

I didn't really get that much of an "escape" feel, more of a glorified freedom, standing on the highest mountain kind of thing you know.

I have little to say for this song smartpoetic. You are what I eventually want to become.

5/5 from me easily, keep them coming.

SuperTonic64 responds:

Wow...thank you MaestroSorrow.

I really wanted to bring out a feeling of chaos, despair, and hurry, but I guess my interpretation of the song isn't what everyone is interpreting it as. :D (Make sence?)

MaestroSorrow, it's been the same with me. You, WinterWind, Egden, XGM, and everyone has always inspired me to do better. Maestro, I will be lucky to be half the awesome composer you are. You are one of my music mentors, and I will always look up to you and your work. :)

Thanks for the review! ^_^ I'm glad I changed one mind about soundfonts. :D

Wow...

You make such wicked music. You're one of my favorites in the classical section & this is one of my favorites by you.... I do hear some dissonance at 0:15 with the horns tho. Might wanna fix that. But other than that nothing else seems out of place. Beautiful melodies BTW. What sample libary are you using?

SuperTonic64 responds:

Thanks! ^_^

I guess I added to much reverb to the horn section. :P I'll fix that, and a couple of other problems I am hearing in the piece. :D

Well, to tell you the truth, I don't use VSTs. I use soundfonts because I don't really understand how to use VSTs very well. :P But I got most of my soundfonts from www.hammersounds.net, and I had to search around the internet for a couple of the libraries I use. :P When I get Reason 3, I'll start using VSTs more. :)

Thanks for the review! (and compliments! :O) ^_^
