Reviews for "Platform Tutorial AS2"

I'll be using this engine to write my next game...

Who should I make out the royalty cheques to?

Kwing responds:

Just leave a little thing in the corner that says "Platform Engine by Kwing" or something like that. I don't care.

Good information.

Why'd you have to do green and black? It's an O.K. Combination but I'd choose something with a bit more contrast next time like the lighter green on the buttons. I have a dim computer and that makes reading it all a chore, eispecally when the text gets smaller(whenever you showed the program text on the right for instance.

Kwing responds:

YOAR A DIM COMPUTER! Lol, the scripting text got pretty small, but if you can't read it, it's meant to be pasted into an ActionScript panel where it will once again become legible ;)

Hey, it's great!

Nice tutorial you got there. I learned a few more things thanks to you. Plus I can't help but notice that you put Battle of the Big Bridge.

Kwing responds:

Actually, it's the Gilgamesh theme song from FFV. Thanks anyway!

Yay!

A tutorial that works! Thank you for sharing this, well explained, and I can read the text. 9\10... screw it.... 10\10 4\5

Kwing responds:

:D Thanks! It's so annoying that people complain about the text hard to read... I can read it just fine and so could the first several people that reviewed it.

Good...

It's a good tutorial, though the text is difficult to read, why not just go with black on white? It doesn't really make sense to do an AS2 tutorial though, it's outmoded, cumbersome, and not as versatile as AS3. Somebody could be just starting out, learn AS2, then find that they later need to convert and re-learn everything, which is more difficult in some ways. The basic logic of what's in here is applicable to pretty much any language though, so if somebody knows AS3 they could fairly easily apply the basic methods you present, though I'd streamline some things using arrays... Oh, and this is pretty nitpicky, but why is the mute button only available on the first page? Would it have been any trouble to have made a third button instead of replacing the back button when it wasn't needed? Overall very nice, minor presentation issues and debatable usefulness of the subject matter aside.

Kwing responds:

Yeah, I guess I did take a few liberties in the presentation.

Reason I don't use AS3 is because I don't have a version of Flash that uses it, and I can't afford to pay for another version (or an upgrade). Thankfully this makes you an asshole for criticizing me :D
