Reviews for "Sword Circle Fighter"

Well done.

I try not to critique hard because I can't make a flash game myself, but I looked at the other reviews and you actually seemed to appreciate honest feedback, that's cool. You mentioned you preferred your own music. Me too, I almost always end up turning off the music in favour of my own after a while. Not always though, I like having options for sound, really it shouldn't matter in the end but a sense of control over stupid details feels nice. Pick some good music, maybe a variety of song loops that a person could pick from, and a mute function for when they get bored of your selection. Sound effects might be a good idea but I could really see clanging swords and some generic death sound getting on my nerves quickly considering how quickly some of the fights go. I'd leave it out but it might make people happier if they were there and also equipped with a mute function.
The graphics? Loved them. People are huge fans of options though and for some reason aquiring meaningless achievments. You could probably very easily reward people with options of different lookings swords by reaching required levels of difficulty or some such thing. Maybe able to change the colour of your circle or pick little symbols or something. Nothing too fancy, just there for the hell of it. Think of parsley, it doesn't affect your meal one little bit but it just seems like you should pay more if you get some.
Changing the look of the level every couple of levels would be cool too, once again doesn't affect the gameplay.
Now for the gameplay: I liked it, don't change it. At first I was annoyed at having the game pause after every death, but after a couple rounds I realized it was the only sane way to go about it. The self adjusting AI was cool, although sometimes i would get on a really good run and then lose six in a row but no big deal, losing is part of the game.
So yeah, well done, I hope you're well fed.

Great review! You were able to really understand the game.

Your point about pausing the game after every kill was especially insightful. I prefer to listen to my own music while playing a flash game, but adding some background music wouldn't hurt anything. Adding rewards for reaching higher levels is also a good idea.

not too shaby

I liked the learning curve that you added to the game. The way the AI mimics you and forces you to adapt is solid and well done. The freeze frame of the kill is a nice and simple touch. Though the only thing I would recomend is dealing with a double kill situation. Anytime the freeze happened and both swords hit their mark, I'd go down a lvl. Why not simply make the player re-do that lvl instead? Just a suggestion. But regardless, it's a fun game. Good job

everdel responds:

I am so glad that you found the AI's development system entertaining. That is one of my favorite parts of the game!

You are right, a double kill should allow you to redo the level. Great point!

Thanks for the insight!

Weird

This game is a nice game could have had some sound at least but theres a glich in the game, when I reached level 14, and I got it i just stayed at lvl 14 and kept starting over from the same spot.

everdel responds:

Thank you for your support. I always like to get feedback.

However, I have not seen any sign of the bug you are describing. I have not had any trouble reaching all the way to level 20. Don't forget that your level only increases when you win. When you lose your level will not increase. Are you able to beat the AI at level 14?

If anyone else is also experiencing this problem, please let me know. At the moment I do not see any sign of it. Please try the game again and tell me if you are still having this problem.

Thanks again for the feedback.

cool

kinda addictive but i manage to go to level 12 by only going straight forward...

everdel responds:

I am glad that you found the game addictive. That is what I was going for.

Your observation is correct. The first few levels are very easy. However, as you get to higher levels the AI will get much better. I set it up this way so that new players who are still learning the controls will not be intimidated.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review!

Cool Game Bro

Lawl, joking, anyways, my first impression of this game for the first few levels was "wow, swinging my sword wildly DOES work" but once I got to level 8 and started dropping like a fly every time, I thought I should redo my strategy.

Anyways, this game's cool, it's simplistic style does the job right, and the game's not that cluttered. However, you do need some sounds, maybe some sword clinging and stabbing sounds?

You don't need a heavy metal backdrop, just something to make the game feel alive, this game could go well with some elevator music in the background, lols.

No seriously, go Audio Portal surfing.

everdel responds:

Thank you for your suggestions. Perhaps you are right. Maybe I do need to add more sound.

However, I often find the music and sound effects included in other flash games annoying. I prefer to play while listening to my own music.

What do you think?
