Reviews for "Gerudo Valley Remix WIP"

You need more violins for the part around :40 - 1:00.

it just needs more instruments in general to get the feel of epicness.

BlazingDragon responds:

Thanks for the input!

The violin parts are my favorite! I also think that it finished well, since Gerudo Valley song has no end.

BlazingDragon responds:

I'm glad you like the violins! I'll put a proper ending on this eventually, but I'm happy that it doesn't sound terrible.

Omg this was awsome i think i might have been in a trance lol, anyway loved it and the end is great i dunno what ppl complaining about unless there talking about the abrupt stop i hope u upload this again just a longer version

BlazingDragon responds:

Thank you! I'll work on finishing this and making it longer. :D

Gaaah, I just wrote out a lovely paragraph but it's been deleted by my awful internet browser -.-' So I'll just summerize, sorry :(

Firstly, thanks for making me want to comment badly enough to make another account after my last one was deleted xD (from inactivity, not being a troll etc I swear! D:)

Secondly, I loved it; I love the G-valley theme anyway (ironically, having never played a zelda game properly, sadly enough D:). This was very good.

The violin synth(? If not, am I right in saying a general-midi-default sort of thing?) worked very well for this, I honestly liked it, I think it fits well.

The guitar was very good, considering this is out of your comfort zone. Personally, it sounded like there's a bit too much distortion on it; like you basically just turned all the dial you found up xD It works this time, but honestly through a bit of luck; if you're going to aim for an orchestral style as well, I'd suggeest removing a lot of the effects in future; not all, but definately not that much haha =) that may just be me though, so don't worry about that.

The ending is definately not as bad as anyone is saying it is; the only part I don't like so much, is that it ends abruptly and sort of mid-phrase. I know that's on purpose, but just for me it isn't quite right. The end sounds like the perfect part to continue a drum-loop sort of thing, the main tune played by the violin around 36 seconds to play as a rhythm, and for a solo of your own creation to play over the top of it sort of thing :)

And finally the mixing; that is where I'd say you lost most of the marks. The drums are great rhythmically, but you really struggle to hear them xD They should be at least as loud as the bass is in this. The bass should be roughly where the backing horns are at, and if you made those horns a tiny bit louder, then all the leads could be more prominant, and that would be a near perfect balance, I'd say. The drums, especially if you have a backbeat like you did at the end, should stand out a lot more. At least for rock =)

Best of luck to you, all in all great song, and well done on front page! :)

BlazingDragon responds:

This is a fantastic review with plenty of constructive criticism. I REALLY appreciate that! Do you have music on your old account? I'd love to check it out. PM me if there is somewhere I can hear your work.

I understand what you mean about the violin, but synth isn't the right term. A synth in created by a computer. This is a sample, meaning someone actually recorded a violin player performing each individual note. All of those individual notes are then packaged together into a VST I believe, so that you can arrange them in any way you want and have a realistic sound.

As for the guitar, I actually didn't put ANY effects on it! Well, except for a tiiiiny bit of delay. It actually comes sounding like that right out of the sound library, East West Goliath. I could see if there is a guitar sound with less distortion though. I did want a bit of a gritty sound though since I normally do straight up orchestral pieces.

The ending...It actually does stop mid phrase. :p I want this piece to end up being more like five minutes in length, so the song is definitely not complete. I just have no idea where to go from here and wanted to know if people liked where I was going with that end part. I've been sitting on this project for too long and was hoping that some reviews would provide ideas (as yours has done, so thanks!). I rather like your idea about the violin and a solo.

Your advice on mixing is most helpful, as that is my area of greatest weakness! I know almost NOTHING about it. Thankfully, I just started a recording studio class today at the local community college, and that should help some. I'll balance those out as you recommended.

Thank you so much for all of the helpful advice. Hopefully the finished product will be much more polished. :)

I absolutely hated the violin synth

BlazingDragon responds:

Fair enough, but it isn't a synth. That's a solo violin sample.
