Reviews for "Clicky"

This is sooo soothing. So nice. You made me log in just to write this... I never log in, I just lurk anonymously ;)

TheBenjerman responds:

Why thank ye good sir! I'm honored.

Clickity clack pop tink...

I like the theme of this, the feeling you were going for, and enjoyed the soothing sound of the lead as it happily danced around throughout...

However... Gonna be honest, the clicking annoyed the hell out of me, I think you would've been better off using some more natural percussion, because I remember on my first listen, all that clicking reminded me of was clipping audio. And that isn't a thought makes me enjoy music.
On top of that, it's short, and never really goes anywhere. I do think this had potential, I really do... but it feels to me like you had a cool idea, threw it in your DAW of choice, then said, "Screw it, I'm too lazy to come up with more!"

If you had elaborated on this a bit more and replaced the annoying clicks and pops with some more natural percussion, this could have easily scored higher... But as it is, it gets a 5/10 from me.

TheBenjerman responds:

Hmm, definitely got mixed reviews on the clicking part. Good to know, thanks!

Here is your personal review for your round 1 submission! Remember that the score might be a little lower than I would normally give, I'm being a tad harsher than I'd normally be for the NGADM.

The Good:
-...this song is adorable and very relaxing. I have to say, I really liked the atmosphere you made.
-All the clicky sound effects that I have to assume are the song's namesake sound really cool.
-There are a lot of ambient melodies that fit in with the background chords and melody. They're very nice and as I said, relaxing.
-No problem with the mixing.
-The velocity changes are really cool.

The Not-So-Good:
-No variation in the background melody, or really the melodies going along with it. Actually, there's almost no variation at all in the feel of the song or the different melodies. They could probably be arranged in almost any order and I wouldn't have noticed much of a difference.

Overall: To tell the truth, the only issue I really had with the song at all was the repetition of it. However, that is a *huge* problem. As short as the song is, it could normally get away with it, and I can see that if you had more time you could produce something extraordinarily amazing. But I'm sorry, in the competition, it falls short of Camoshark's song. I'll give it a 6.5/10, mainly for the extremely nice calming atmosphere it gives off.

TheBenjerman responds:

Thanks for the official review good sir!

This is an NGADM Round 1 Review.

I have no idea why I like this so much, but I do. This has such a cute atmosphere, unique choice of sounds and interesting composition that in retrospect it leaves me wondering what's not to like. You've got a knack for grabbing sounds that seemingly have nothing to do with each other and make them sound like they were made for each other, producing a professional-sounding and highly enjoyable finished track. Great work!

What I really like about this track would be the sounds. All of those sounds are just pure ear-candy man. The clicks and pops are bright and don't get the least bit annoying even after the tenth listen, and I'm hearing quite a few sounds in there, including beeps and even a guitar. That, coupled with interesting melodies and soothing pads make this considerably likable. It even has a wonderful atmosphere. Very light and mellow, and held together by those eargasmic pops and clicks.

Having said that, what this lacks in is actual content. There really isn't much to it. What you have is fantastic, but the track is so short! And you don't use a massive variety of sounds either. The song remains in a consistent mood and even the mixing is pretty empty. The sounds seem to choose their own small, limited ranges of frequencies and fit cozily in them instead of having a full use of the frequency spectrum, which is something I admittedly look forward to when hearing ambient.

This unfortunate lack of content doesn't leave me with a lasting effect, and forces me to give you no more than a 7.5. What you've got is great, but it leaves me desiring more.

TheBenjerman responds:

Thanks for the review! And you're right of course, the content is pretty blah.

:O kinda reminds me of summer.

TheBenjerman responds:

:)

Kinda reminds me of summer too, but without all the sweat. Maybe summer nights.
