Reviews for "Geom Wars"

Its good...

You need to make sure that we only get hurt when we actually TOUCH the object. Also, when you modify your cannon, the range shortens over time until u cannot hit the enemies without touching them.

not bad but needs more

A game often has to be somewhat enjoyable for me to finish it. While I did complete the game, it left me a little disapointed.
A couple things in my oppinion take away from this game.

- the first is the weapons. The weapon system works great and even though it seems a few more options could have been implemented, my true qualm is with the usefulness of them. To me it seemed that the 2nd tiers for the wide cannon were basically the same weapon either more concentrated or spead apart. To make it worse, they had worse range the the 1st tier. The narrow cannon was good and the beam was a good upgrade(sacrifice a littledistance for accuracy) but the rate of fire on the distance cannon made it only useful on the level with the 3 easy bosses.

-second is the lack of a final boss, in fact the booses in generall were a let down.
They lack any sort of attack. (a laser, projectile, or even a sudden charge at the charcter would would work nicely for this) So, all you had to do was stay away, which wasn't hard because they move icredibly slow. Sadly that means the final swarm of enemies was in fact harder than any boss by the game's current standard would have been.

So, overall this game plays great and is rather fun; it just feels a little lacking. I'd really like to see a sequal that taps into the potential that this game has.

Plumpman responds:

All this and collision detection are being worked on right now, weapon balancing and such were my biggest issue so the feedback is appreciated.

New version will be up soon.

Nice 'un!

I'll start with the good:
1. The game had very good styling. While graphics weren't the best or most original I've seen yet (frankly I'm a bit bored with the continuous geometric styled games but I guess they're easy to style, eh) you went with it and everything fit together from background to sound. I liked how you seemed to carry on certain themes as in the Green shapes were both fast and were similarly styled. Menus were a bit too simple but worked well with the general theme of things.

2. Awesome upgrade system!! Instead of buying upgrades you actually get to change your ship's shape which comes to different effects. Very original and fun to play around with. Too bad selection was quite minor, but the potential is still there though I'd try and use a similar system with the chassis as well next time. I am confused though if the levels have any meaning? I mean, if all that matters is the experience for the levels, why even bother on having levels for your ship?

The Bad:

1. The game was frankly very easy. I actually finished the whole game without any upgrades whatsoever my first time through because I didn't notice the upgrade button...and it didn't really tax my skills either.

2. As others have noted crash detection was rather off which is a pretty big fault in this genre of game.

All in all not a bad show though I'm certain you could do much better!

So thanks for the game and hope to see more soon!

a few things...

I liked the game but i think a few things need to be seen to. Such as the tier 2 upgrades almost always made the attack less useful than that of just the tier 1 which kinda defeats the point of tier 2. last the stealth chassis has to little health fast movements are nice but not useful enough to counteract having only 1 health

Geom Wars? Seriously?
Like Geometry Wars, right?
I guess that's accurate since it's EXACTLY like Geometry Wars, only half as fun.

And fix your collision detection. Did you really not notice that before you submitted your game?
