Reviews for "Wanted To Be A Ghost"

Aw come ON!

Bloody hell, it was exellent, until the last scene.

Everything was awesome. It was nice, it was touching, even the sloppy art went well with it. It was perfect. 10/10 material. Exellent story of parent bringing up her child and child learning about parent's love.

But then you HAD to go and ruin it with the careful what you wish for thing, which is an entirely different story, with entirely different feeling :(.

It felt like being woken up in a middle of a great dream.
WHich might have been the entire point, but it sure as hell wasn't entertaining :(

Oh well...
The fact is, the rest is exellent, so a 9/10 is well deserved.

Just don't change the tone so abrubtly ever again please :(. Give us some premonition, some foreboding music, some pictures of an impending disaster which is about to hit the poor guy who brought it on himself. Then the whole thing goes down a whole lot better and doesn't feel like suddently running into a brick wall.

ViNCeNT-aSMoDeuS responds:

It follows a rule similar to a lot of films.
The antagonist is seen in the first scene.
When the boy is playing, there's a nice little red truck to the side of him, as a little hint towards the end.

But thanks otherwise. :)

a twist

oh my gosh it gave me a scare. i do like the choice of background music though. its creepy. all the way.

ViNCeNT-aSMoDeuS responds:

Thanks. :)

Yep, that's Newgrounds for you

First, good animation. Nothing ground breaking, but you know how to do it, so that's good. I have to agree with the others in saying the ending wasn't all great... I mean, it's ironic, sure, but this has been done to death on NG. So many flash will have that sort of lame attempt at a final joke... haha death, it's shocking so it's funny. Of course, this isn't a humorous flash, but you get what I mean. If it wasn't for the ending, it would've been cute and had a more of a point to it.

But that's just the story, and the story is only one element of it, so okay. Otherwise it was a decent animation, it had a cute style, and the music was good too. Work on the writing and you'll have a good animation on your hands. Keep trying, man!

ViNCeNT-aSMoDeuS responds:

This is exactly what Hitchcock had to go through when he killed off the young boy and old lady on the bus.
I really don't like happy happy films, so an abrupt albeit slightly disturbing moral is the way to go for me.
Though I do agree, my scriptwriting needs work.
That's because usually I make everything up on the spot, but this is my first time actually trying.
Cheers for the critique.

Started out really well...

I really didn't like the ending. It completely ruined the mood and the whole experience. It started out with great substance and story though. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 was because it was decent animation.

ViNCeNT-aSMoDeuS responds:

It's meant to. ;)
Thanks for the critique.

Agreed

Not sure what's funny about it, I guess I took it a little more serious (dad thing?) Anyways it's a great story, good music. Not a fan of sad ending but that doesn't take anything away from a well done story. Good job!

ViNCeNT-aSMoDeuS responds:

It's not exactly meant to be a punchline.
If it wasn't so cartoony I'd try and get it into 'Serious Shorts'.
But yeah, that's the response I was hoping for.
Thanks. :)
