Reviews for "Super Mafia Land"

Fun but not perfect...

like the gag of having the Mario Brothers as Mafiosos but why couldn't you take the time to refine the controls and physics? I've played through the Mario Trilogy many times and can automatically tell when something's wrong with the clones engine design. Even if you don't remember how the engine was you can always go and test it out by playing the originals. So far I haven't ever played a clone that got it perfectly down yet.

Needs more optimization

The first level runs okay on my computer (3ghz P4), but once you go through the first door it slows down to an unplayable speed, even on low quality in a pop-up window. Team Fortress 2 runs better than this, and it's much larger and more complex than a Flash applet. I don't know if your engine is designed to keep up with everything in a level at once or not. There are more complicated, graphics-intensive Flash games on Newgrounds that run better than this. Whatever the case may be, this is completely unacceptable.

The graphics were nice and the first level played well, but after that it just doesn't work.

Also, having the same button for run and pick up / throw is annoying if you want to run while carrying an item.

Graphics and Animation: Pretty nice, I have to say, but I didn't really see any mafia-related graphics other then the characters. I wouldn't really even consider this a mafia-inspired game. The design was good, though, and it was interesting to see one of my favorite childhood games transformed through flash. 7/10

Playability: The controls are quite clunky, but the character does go where you want him to. Some aspects are irritating. For example. when I was battling "Birdo", I couldn't grab the eggs she (or he, I'm not quite sure) shot, unless I ducked. This wasn't how it was in the original, and it made it more bothersome to complete. Along with that, many glitches made the game frustrating and unplayable. One of these, as an example, was when I was in the second level, digging the sand to retrieve the door key. When moving to the side, the controls overshot the character, sending him into the wall. I thought I would simply hit it, but instead, I went through, then plummeted to my doom. This was extremely frustrating as it happened multiple times, almost leading me to abandon this game all together. All in all, the playability of the game needs work. 4/10

Music: As cool as it was for you to use Newgrounds audio that was mafia-like, many songs got repetitive playing on loop over and over again. It got annoying to a point where I actually felt the need to turn it off and put on my own. I however did enjoy the voicework, where appropriate. 3/10

Humor: I'm sorry, but if this game was shooting to be funny because of mafia characteristics, it completely failed there. I didn't laugh once at this game, and upon seeing the characters, I groaned. Really not funny. At all. 0/10

Overall: An interesting idea of remaking Super Mario Bros 2 gets completely bogged down by irritating glitches, obnoxious music, unfluid controls, and more. On a plus side, I did like the art and graphical style, though. But, all in all, I hate to be honest, as I'm normally a big fan of BoMToons' work, but this game was simply bad from start to finish. I really hope your next work is an improvement. 4/10

Magex, signing out.

Unoriginal and boring.

Great artwork from BoMtoons, but the game is tepid at best. The engine is buggy and unresponsive. The music gets annoying very fast.

Total lack of originality. You even use the same enemies from Super Mario Bros 2!

Nothing Special

The characters seem to be the only thing that's different for SML 2
