Reviews for "Aquatica"

Looks fantastic, plays repetitive.

Well this is clearly your most commercial entry to date, probably bolstered by the fact that it was created for a Flash game site that you now work for. As such, it falls into the pitfalls of many a more mainstream game in that it is kind of boring and repetitive.

The controls are easy to pick up and the gameplay is sound enough, but it's just that there have been so many similar games to this over the years they all just kind of get boring. Still, the backgrounds for each level looked just fantastic, definitely had the level of detail we've come to expect from your work.

Games like this are good in that they have a more mainstream appeal and more people are likely to hear of your work, and possibly check out your other entries. And of course, the news that Ex-Mortis 3 is still coming along nicely, probably moreso than ever thanks to your new job, is always good to hear. I personally won't mind playing several average to good games like this with your stunning art style if it means there is an Ex-Mortis 3 at the end of it!

Nice, not very good

I didn't like this game very much, but anyway, it was good

Good Approach

Another masterpiece brought to you by the same man who brought you the spectacular Exmortis series. This Flash game is like no other on the Internet. The music is stunning, as well as the ocean graphics. The player of this game might as well be exploring the ocean floor inside a submersible. That is how realistic this piece is. Aquatica and the Exmortis series deserve the highest possible ratings. Totally different spectrums, one a masterpiece of terrifying and bone chilling interactive fiction, the other, a masterpiece of the wonders of Nature and the ocean, yet, so remarkable and beautiful that they lure the viewer in with the same intense power as a work of literature by a legendary author such as Edgar Allan Poe or Emily Dickinson. As a writer and artist myself, I immediately know what is a masterpiece simply by the look of it.

Aquatica and the Exmortis series are not just simply award winning works, they are works that should be an inspiration to many other artists out there, just like the authors of the past. Goliath the Soothsayer is another example of a great mystery, as well as horror. No other "game" on the Net actually requires the "player" to use such a level of mental and critical thinking skills to solve a puzzle. These are not just "games". They are interactive fiction, and they should be referred to as such. After all, interactive fiction gives the reader the same experience as a written novel gives: plot, storyline, conflict, climax, and resolution. However, interactive fiction also gives the reader something that the written novel doesn not: It is the sheer adrenaline of actually participating in the storyline AS the main character.

Once again, great works. And I hope Exmortis 3 will be completed soon.

Good Approach

I think this is probably you weakest game, however. It got boring very easily, and I just would have rather played Spore or something. It looked like a long game, so I just stopped on level eight. However, the graphics were not terrible at all, and the concept was very easy. However, this game does not live up to the other legendary games you have made.

Simply beautiful and surreal.
