so did link betray sonic?

Really good

I realized the hard work you had done to make this interactive movie. I know how it feels getting epic failure because you had to keep on redoing stuff. Its really cool and I got entertained by this movie. Its a mix of final fantasy, sonic and anime and it really turned out well. Here's my rating
Score : 9
Graphics : 7
Story : 9
Interactivity : 10
Awesomeness : 8
Time : 10 (2 years of redoing? what the hell!?)\
Effort : 10
Good Luck on FFSX7 and I like reviewing.

A haven of combat and sprites

For starters i would like to point out this is the first installment of your series that i have played. I'm sure the die hard fans would agree thats a sin, but it seemed to tell quite a bit of the story i have missed so far which i appreciate. It was clear, concise, and hopefully the regular players wouldn't mind having to sit through a few facts they already knew. Onto the technical aspects.

At 30FPS you've quenched my thirst for a game that runs smooth. So much can be lost in a flash that chugs around and bumbles in high action sequences, yours flew true. I know there were a couple of minor hiccups upon selecting a move in the Aeon flight till sound caught up, but you fore mentioned that in your notes which i accepted. All the sprites themselves were top notch, and even though you had multiple characters over different platform mediums they still banded well together visually. The cohesiveness of this all came together with the next mention, voice acting.

You said your voice actors are very good, i would elevate that to exceptional if you wouldn't agree yourself. There aren't a lot of flashes out there (let alone interactive ones) that have such a broad cast and actually pull off their scripts. They all sounded fairly genuine to their original, and while some at times seemed a little confined to that role and lacked emotion, i absolutely enjoyed. They were all recorded well, little distortion, and the same could be said for most of the sound in this. You also had little differences elsewhere that upped my gaming experience.

The UI. Being a first time player into this i noticed all sonics abilities were clearly labeled. This make getting into the thick of combat a breeze, and took Aeon only a couple of tries on normal to beat. The ability to use the heavy end moves was also fairly straight forward, although to begin was slightly perplexed at how the gold bar was raised. This was soon answered, and didn't worry me too much. I will point out however the 'chase' scene. I myself have played games for a number of years, varying kind of genres. I believe myself to have some degree of reflex and even that caused a few trips back to the start for me hehe. I think a jedi would be able to one shot it but i'd put forward perhaps even half a second longer for people to select an option. Rather see people enjoy on reflex instead of memory.

I think its a pity that you're moving into drawing rather then sprite. I'm sure you're wanting to expand and i wish you the best of luck. You seem however to have a large talent here and seems such a shame to see you not build on this any further. Alas time will tell and hopefully you might be able to govern time for both.

I greatly enjoyed this interactive movie. The story was well written which kept a point to all the combat and action. This was all backed up by a dedicated group of voice actors and an animator with a knack for keeping our eyes gooey in the wonders of sprite characters and worlds we all know and love. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy.

BlackDevilX responds:

I love though out, well-written reviews (whether it be good or bad) such as this.
I am going to try to address everyone of your points as thoroughly as i can.

I actually prefer people to start at the latest, then go back to episode 1, so they can see how much effort i put into creating something worth-while. I feel it brings them to an understanding of exactly how much effort i put into this flash.

I chose 30 FPS because its something i can work with easily, to create smooth animation, thats consistant. I can slow it down, speed it up, without it looking too bad. I also edit the sprites timing so that they match their in game reactions perfectly (in otherwords if i was working with 30 fps, id stretch out every animation of a sprite such as sonics flip action, so that it matches the in game speed. If i was working with 60 fps, id stretch it out to exact measurements considering games usually run at 60 fps).

The voice acting, what i do is gather them all in a room and whip em until they get it right. No food, water breaks or anything XD. Im just messing, but seriously, i tend to be a bit of a hard ass on voices because i want them to be perfect, not only to make the flash look well, but more so to push their limits, so they can excel and get noticed. I thought the V.As did an amazing job, as well. but i don't want to over gloat XD. Apparently it seems that a vast majority had enjoyed the voice acting, which makes me happy, and i KNOW that it makes them even happier.

As for the Battle HUD, i went to X5, and thought, i want to get rid of the giant blue eyesore, and make it easier and efficient for people to find what they need. So i began making MAIN types of H.U.Ds (before it was numbers not even life bars).
Basically i moved everything out the way because i wanted to show people the action of the battle.

Also the chase minigame, ill tell all of you the variables in which the mode effects.

Orignally easy mode was 1 1/3 a second
NOrmal is 1 second
Hard is 1/3 of a second.

Because the lag i mentioned in the flash, it made it VERY hard to see the actions, to the point on hard you basically had to memorize it. I apologize for that, so in turn i took of the random scoring for the attempts.

As for moving from spriting to animation, its fine really! I will still be optimizing my spriting abilities while practicing my animations so i dotn get rusty, and i can keep up with the bar of todays sprite movies.

Thank you for your review.
