Reviews for "The Rise of a Knight"

Great game...

But I hate those spiders. It felt very stiff, lagged my computer, and it was glitchy at points that made me just want to punch the screen. Still though, you did wonderfully, it was a beautiful work of art, had an intriguing story line, and fun enemies to hate.

Although, if its possible, in the sequel...
-Add a "next" button for the text. Not everyone reads that slow, or that fast. Unless you're going to introduce voice actors, it doesn't hurt it, especially because the music is on loop. I desperately wanted to just skip it, but I wanted to follow the story, so I was left getting later and later for school. lol
-Please add a quality toggle, I couldn't find one, and right clicking the quality down wasn't available.
-Please refine the attack contact points, or at least lower the "daze" the guard goes into when he's struck. Many times during boss battles, I'd get surrounded by minions who would toss me back and forth while the boss bashed me to death.
-Allow jumping over enemies to avoid attacks either work all the time, or not at all. It was really confusing because at some points, I'd be able to jump over an archer's arrow without problems, and other times, I'd hit the peak of my jump, and the arrow would somehow strike me, and "teleport" me back to the ground. It was irritating to say the least.
-Fix the spiders. When they attack, they sort of creep forward past my shield. It was bad enough that they were ridiculously hard to hit and kill, but then they'd sneak past my shield while I'm trying to regain health.

Lol, sorry about all the cons, but it was really infuriating. Wonderful game none the less, and I can't wait until the next one. Kudos to you, man.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Dont worry about all the cons man. You have some really good points there. Making this game has taught me a lot and I know how to fix almost all of those now. I dont know if I would be able to fix all those problems with the combat in the sequel to the Rise of a Knight because I will be using the same engine, but with other games in the future I now have a much better understanding and concept of how to make combat scenarios work in sidescrollers.

Friendly tip against spiders: They hate the heavy attack. Use it. Press S.

Thanks a lot for the review and all the helpful feedback :)

Entertaining, for the most part

As seen below, the game is pretty good in the art and story department. My only suggestions are 1) greater enemy variety, and 2) fixing the collisions so certain attacks can be avoided by jumping. (For example, the goblin's throwing axes hit even when they were jumped over.) Other than those minor tweaks, it was a solid game.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Good points. Thanks :)

pretty bland

nice game, but the same as any hack n' slash game there is about anywhere. Just look at Holgarth, the only differences is there being no bosses and having to avoid insta-attack. It has good gameplay, but all you did differently was put a skin on, added a few text story likes, and added a few drawn scenes out. Really hard with the sluggish/non-respondant commands, slow attack speed and near impossibility of attack speed differations. NICE EFFORT THOUGH! 8/10 4/5
P.S. I couldn't even change to low med and high quality to try and fix this.

Fix that and a lot of people would be happy

SeethingSwarm responds:

Okay, I'll keep your comments in mind.
Thanks .)

Its pretty fun

I lke it but its missing something.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Okay, cool that you liked it. Hopefully I can somehow provide that missing thing when the sequel comes out...

Did you ever finish the story?

SeethingSwarm responds:

Yes I did! I made a sequel to the game in 2008 called "The Rise Of A KING". The sequel is a lot more expansive with RPG elements and an open world to explore. You can easily find it by going to my user page and viewing all of my games, but here's a link to it: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/457996

Anyway, thanks for the nice score! It's great to know that people are still playing these older games of mine :)
