FF8 indeed :)
I like the pause at :36. It makes the track more dynamic and adds a feeling of really anxiously wanting to win the battle (all, of course, imho).

I am reminded of FF8's battle theme.
At the same time Xenosaga I's; albeit in a much lighter tone.
I dislike the slight pause at :36. Since this is supposed to be a loop, there should be as few pauses as possible to keep it homogeneous, shouldn't there?
I think it fits together.
Very nice use of percussion and strings there. ^_^
